Considering marriage is by definition from the government, I doubt we could get government out of marriage. Also, how is allowing more people to marry devaluing marriage?

Simply put, the legal responsibility went no further than the local community of the couple. It was not expected that the state or national governments had any jurisdiction concerning the marriage whatever!

Allowing gays to get married takes the religious and moral equation out of the picture. Normally, people got married for moral reasons and/or religious reasons. Gays violate both but they can now be legally married which means marriage is no longer a guarantee of morality. This is why I said it has been devalued in society although for individuals and ther religious organizations it still may be just as valuable.

As for the underlined, NO, we don't. We're just as willing and capable of marrying for moral and/or religious reasons.

The simple fact is that the traditional "marriage" has been corrupted, subverted, and destroyed. It has lost it's meaning in today's society. The fact that we are even contemplating this OP's questions is a good indicator of just how far we've fallen as a society. As an American I believe in equal rights for ALL Americans. As a religious man, within my faith, I cannot accept homosexuality, bestiality, incest (whether by rape or by mutual consent), or any combination of these within the context of the institution of marriage. I will pray for you all and for our nation, and particularly for our children.

If you actually believed in equal rights for ALL Americans, you'd support same-sex marriage.
