Red means there are new posts.
The scrolling means there have been many posts in the thread (what's the threshold for static->scrolling? I think it's somewhere around 50 or so replies)

All I'm trying to say is that people who bump topics with "bump" or "hey guys look" or "+1" hate freedom and should probably be destroyed by attack helicopters, to minimise the risk to military lives and nearby civilians alike.

Yeah, the whole thing with the thread icons is very ill-defined and needs to be defined or simplified to something that everyone can understand. Maybe have a legend or an official (Mod.) thread somewhere on the forums about what they mean.
