The Thread Icon. What does it all mean?

Okay, so I figured out scrolling means someone is activly reading it while no scroll means no one is currently reading it, green means there have been no new posts sence your last one or you've seen them if there have while red means there are unread posts sence your last one, but what do the red and green stars in the uper right corner mean?

I think the star is frequency of posts. This one has green but Same Sex Marrage has a red one with over 1,000 posts.

The scrolling means there have been many posts in the thread (what's the threshold for static->scrolling? I think it's somewhere around 50 or so replies)
