The man is in the hospital, probably on morphine nappytime at the moment. They're not going to try to get anything from him yet.

I know. And when he gets upgraded to You Can Interrogate Him Now status(a real medical thing[/notadoctor]), they're going to interrogate him without reading him his Miranda rights under the public safety exception.

He still has the right to remain silent, and the right to have an attorney present during questioning, and will be provided with an attorney if he cannot afford one of his own. They're just not going to tell him that, at least not right away, because he might have more bombs around and finding them is rather important, lest they blow more people up.

Plus the Public Safety Exception has a short duration, about 24 hours or so after being invoked. After that they're required to read him the rights.
Crimes committed by Muslims will be a pan-Islamic plot and proof of Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of loners who do not represent their belief system at all.

Ok. They were Islamic, Chechen and terrorists using an Al-Qaeda technique. It sounds to me that Al-Qaeda may be using some Chechen insurgents they supported during the Chechen Wars. Not these two specifically, but Chechnya probably has some terrorist problems still.

Yes. All of them. About this very story. This entire event was a monumental clusterfuck when it came to journalism.

All this means is that anything he says under questioning will not be admissible in court. Nothing else.

I'm personally not surprised we caught him this fast. He was still on Boston. Unlike Osama bin Laden, who was in one of two massive, unfriendly countries half a world away from us, using a massive network of corrupt government officials, safe houses, couriers, millions of dollars in funding, and subordinates to elude us.

Hell, he had the entire Taliban government on his side in 2001.
Sometimes I'm reading through military threads here, and I stop and think "What the hell is wrong with all of us?" But then I get on Facebook, and realize I'd rather be insane than an idiot.

The worrying side of that is that people don't need to be around people like bin Laden to become radicalised. If that is the motivation here, it looks as if people who grew up in the US can become radicalised simply through the internet.

Or pamphlets. Or books. Or posters. You don't need an iconic figure or the internet to become radicalised. ;)

You can get "radicalized" just by being sad and lonely...that appears to be the case with Tamerlan.

The problem is that is, of course, impossible outside of sarcasm. We'll never solve violence 100%, it's inherent in the human psyche. My best advice would be a nationwide ad campaign of "Don't Be A Dick By Killing Random People".

Here is the thing about the public safety exception in this case:
Can anyone point to a DOJ official actually announcing they were going to use this?
I mean, besides an "unnamed source" who "isn't authorized" to make such an announcement?
It seems to be a bunch of media speculation that they can or might use it. But no credible evidence that they actually were pursuing that course. Isn't it all just speculation at this point?

You discredit the derogation and yourself by using it completely out of context.

I did note, with evidence, the general incompetence of our massive security infrastructure and discussed the implication that, even with the government constantly playing games with the Fourth Amendment, as well as the massive costs of all this security, it completely failed an investigation that should have been much easier than foreseeable ones might be.

As for being a "massive wall," I have no interest in the 96% of comments of 6 words or fewer with no substance and no detail. Mine was still pretty short, but I don't pander to low attention spans because anything beyond "Yea I know right lol" as a comment is taxing.

Seriously? I think we should be more accepting of other cultures. Ever since 9/11, when Osama bin laden took responsibility for the attacks, everyone accuses the Muslim people when an act of terrorist happens. Real Muslims are against violence, not for it. They don't like war or terrorism. The US used to be a gateway to freedom for foreign people. It should stay that way. I admit, though, there should be a better system to keep them from illegally crossing.
