Which is avocado with your regular cheeseburger.

Aside from the Kiwiburger, there really isn't anything special about McD's or any other American fast food outlet in NZ.

Speaking of which, we currently have McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Dominoes, Denny's, Burger King, Wendy's, KFC and Carl Jr's in NZ, the latter only entered this year. Want to try.

Edit: Forgot Subway and Dunkin' Donuts.

My personal fave was the "tsukimi burger", a burger with "fried egg". Tsuki = moon, mi = see/veiw. Tsukimi is thus moon viewing, a fall harvest moon type festival/event. The fried egg sort of looks like the moon. See: http://loneleeplanet.com/2010/11/tsukimi-burger/

The run down of the Big American burgers:
The 2010 lineup included:

The Texas Burger - a two-layer burger with a Big Mac-style middle bun separating the bottom layer composed of a beef patty, mustard-relish and American cheese from a top layer of barbecue sauce, bacon and crispy fried onions.
The New York Burger - beef patty topped Monterrey Jack cheese, bacon, tomato, lettuce and mustard sauce.
The California Burger - a beef patty topped with spicy cheese, bacon, tomato, lettuce and red wine sauce.
The Hawaiian Burger - a beef patty topped with an Egg McMuffin-style fried egg and gravy, which all tops bacon strips on a bed of chopped lettuce and American cheese.

The 2011 lineup included:

The Idaho Burger - a beef patty topped with onions, bacon, whole-grain mustard sauce and a hash brown potato patty, all topped with American cheese and pepper sauce.
The Miami Burger - a beef patty topped with American cheese, shredded lettuce, tortilla chips, and a pile of taco-seasoned ground beef, which all tops spicy chili sauce.
The Manhattan Burger - a beef patty topped with a slice of mozzarella cheese, a slice of deli pastrami, lettuce, sour cream sauce and onions.
The Texas 2 Burger - a two-layer burger with a Big Mac-style middle bun separating the bottom layer composed of a beef patty, mustard-relish and American cheese from a top layer of bacon, onions, grated cheese and chili beans.

Now here's the 2012 lineup:

The Las Vegas Burger - a beef patty topped with a sautéed salsa of sliced beef and onions, which all tops lettuce, cream cheese sauce and American cheese.
The Grand Canyon Burger - a two-layer burger with a Big Mac-style middle bun separating the bottom layer composed of a beef patty with steak filling, mozzarella cheese and steak sauce from a top layer of an Egg McMuffin-style fried egg, cheddar cheese and crispy onions.
The Broadway Burger - a beef patty topped with a mix of fresh vegetables, pastrami bacon, mustard sauce and cream cheese sauce, which all tops mozzarella cheese.
The Beverly Kills Burger - a beef patty topped with an Egg McMuffin-style fried egg, lettuce, onions, avocado sauce, American cheese and bacon, which all tops Caesar salad sauce.

I'll echo Dai about Makudonarudo, their seasonals are good, their US state burgers were just... odd.

I DO like their shrimp burger though and love the corn soup in the winter.

MOS pretty much has a special "slower fast food" niche.
http://en.rocketnews24.com/2013/01/14/m ... rger-aint/

There's a local place here that does the whole organic/locavore/slow food thing, and whose burger falls outside "fast food".

Never did get the corn potage thing - too much like creamed corn, which I've always found revolting. (And I think you know enough about my tastes to know that there are very few things I find inedible.)

Serrland wrote:I don't know anything about this place. By state burgers, do you mean that they have a burger for each state? That would be too much for a man to handle! What sort of American food?

Hot dogs, apple pie, fries, burgers, milkshakes, fried chicken, pizza (the common pizza we eat today is of American origin), burritos (what we commonly we call burritos are actually of American origin), and cola.

You know, the usual. I enjoy most everything here except fried chicken. I'm really not a fan of that.

However, I love hamburgers, Coca-Cola, and apple pie. :)

OK, so that excludes all the other sorts, meaning that it is local.

Now, do you want to narrow it down to what sort of chili dogs, or has the point been taken?

Chili dogs are quite Californian. Well, Southern Californian. But still within my state, so therefore: local.

And these Chili dogs are done "Tommy's style" (Tommy's is a restaurant chain in Los Angeles that is famous for their chili).

The mustard dog on the other hand is common throughout the country.

ICly Radiatia has this.

OOCly there are things like the Kiwiburger at McDonalds.

Which reminds me of something which really annoyed me - why do McDonald's in New Zealand have a "Tastes of America" going, as if the USA is some exotic country who's food differs greatly to regular McDonald's. It makes no sense to me. McDonald's is the quintessential American food.

Damn you for introducing me to yet another annoying thing the Americans do...

If it did, McDonald's would have Crab McBites instead of Fish McBites, there would be Goetze's Caramel Creams in every take-out bag, and every batch of fries would be showered in Old Bay. Also, Utz potato chips. Everywhere.

Because Maryland is the best.
