well, the Kat used in that pic was Kat's old avatar... I modded the Ceiling Cat pic. since it was a parody of the ceiling cat pic, I believe it's exempt from copyright.

Nope. Ouroboros is the actual term for a serpernt or dragon eating its own tail. That was a great episode, though. "Kochanski's me ex-girlfriend... and me mum!" Pretty messed up. Seems like it might have been inspired by an ancient creation myth, but I couldn't say for sure.

As for the thread topic, I'm siding with the rest of those who say "If you're not claiming it as your own work, then no."

I found the cat-outline part of my flag randomly on the web, and have changed it slightly. The hammer and sickle and star are rather commonplace on NS. I don't think much of matters, unless another nation is trying to pass itself off as yours.

No. I occasionally use a picture without permission, but it's always in support of a point and I try to attribute (ie, name or link to the site it was from.) I consider that fair use, particularly since the site it was from is usually a public funded one and use of their graphic is in accordance with their intention to inform.

Or from wikipedia. If that's "ripping off" then I plead: they did it first.

I don't think I even want an avatar. I'm tempted to turn them off, since I identify posters by their name and their sig. Avatars are just confusing, particularly if they change often.

Mine is a movie character with a banana on a white background... i found it on the internet and re-sized it to make it look more flag like. If you can have a T-Rex + a Cat on a flag, i can have Samuel O Jackson holding a banana

You arent correct.
My flag is custom lineart...all of them are actually.
My nation with regards to my RPing is completely original and certainly not ripped from table top game or Anime. If anything it is my approximation of Gaelic and Norse cultures had they left the European area prior to Romanization(The Church that is) and not been subject to conversion until much later and in that incorporating West African and Indian Subcontinent influences.
