It's important because one group was oppressed. The other, whether directly responsible or not, indirectly benefited from the oppression. Even though not all of the oppressive group are to blame, that doesn't mean they're the same.

Both groups are oppressed in various areas. Both are indirectly responsible. The oppression along gender lines required compliance fromall. some, of both genders.
