But they are the opposite sex. The reason for the surgeries is to make them the opposite sex, just as they believed they were supposed to be.

You don't have to have SRS to change your gender. Changing how you dress and how you perceive yourself changes your gender. Changing your physical and hormonal attributes changes your sex.
