Celtic Necklace

Postby Nercer - » Thu Nov 05, 2009 6:59 pm

I got bored and was looking on Amazon.com and put in Celtic Pagan things. It came back with alot of celtic spiral necklaces. My first responce was "Uuh, mine!", but then I got to thinking that the only ones I've ever seen wearing them are girls (I'm a boy). Do dudes where them? Just curious what you guys think. Thanks!

(I seem inscure don't I? lol)

My brother's been known to wear a Celtic knot pendant, time to time. IIRC.

I've seen that pattern in quite a few places around Chicago. Is it Celtic?

I wouldn't wear it, but I'm not really one for necklaces; I prefer rings. If you like it, go ahead. It looks nice.

I've worn stuff like that before, and I'm a dude way over 6 feet tall. If I liked it, I certainly wouldn't let the fact that 'girls wear it' stop me from doing so.

Just as an aside - there's a certain amount of similarity between that symbol and a popularly accepted symbol of BDSM lifestyles. Again - I wouldn't let that stop me, but I just thought it was worth giving you a heads-up.

If you're well over six foot, you can get away with more femme stuff than a little guy can.

Lolwut? It's a triskelion, an ancient Celtic symbol (no relation to Wicca… I've seen them at Bru na Boinne which is 5000 years old)… is it really associated with whips, chains and flagellation! :o

Id wear it, but, I dont generally wear jewelry of any type...well, unless you count Wallet Chains...

One of my friends, who is a guy, currently deployed, has one just like that, only gold...

if what you/re refering to are what they called a torc, then yes, they were worn primarily as a sign of rank, by those who had earned or been granted that rank. mostly men, but many women also, as it wasn't until nearly roman times that gender as such played that much of a roll, at least as near as from what i can tell.

you might find good reference in Society for Creative Anachronism materials.

Look do not let gender stereotypes determine what you wear.
If you like it and it looks good then fucking wear it.
Look at pink, its become a frat boy color now for Christ sakes.
