Maybe the US will start burning bearded Arabs in effigy as we shoot off fireworks in September?

It would be a convenient way to draw attention away from our domestic woes and injustices.

as far as I know, Guy Fawkes day is a British holiday/celebration. so why call it a distraction? wern't they celebrating it years before 9/11?

I think the "conspiracy" was set up as a ploy and a distraction.

And most certainly Fawkes was a scapegoat.

In what sense?

There was certainly huge tension between Catholics and Protestants across Europe and I don't see a conspiracy as such, and I don't really see Guy Fawkes as a scapegoat.

One might argue much was made of the plot to entrench the Protestant position, much as was made of 9/11 to pursue an agenda but, in both cases, the actual event isn't really a 'conspiracy' as such in terms of ulterior motives on either side.

Such an awesome movie. I remember the first time I watched it I was like 9. The scenes where Evie was tortured scared me. Watched it a month or two ago and it was so totally awesome. i am gonna watch it this weekend now.

Guy Fawkes Night is an annual celebration on the evening of 5 November. It marks the downfall of the Gunpowder Plot of 5 November 1605, in which a number of Catholic conspirators, including Guy Fawkes, attempted to destroy the Houses of Parliament, in London, United Kingdom.

It was formerly celebrated in the US:
George Washington forbade the celebration of the day among his troops due to its anti-Catholic and pro-British purpose.

Ah, something about Protestant vs. Catholics. That feud(catholics vs. protestants) has paralysed my country until the 1960s. I'll pass celebration, if you don't mind 8)

Oh, and my language is not funny, at least our spelling makes more sense than yours ;)

Okay  That is a dutch version(which is definitely not a direct translation of the original) of the barbie girl song (orginally an english song, sung by Danish, and if you know how those speak), and then the dutch pronounciation is written back in something that looks similar to english. Very representative of dutch indeed :p

But funny though, I'll give you that :)

I went to a fun fair, followed by a bonfire and fireworks, at Hyde Park in Leeds, UK.

It was bloody awesome! Of course, I watched V for Vendetta and ordered the graphic novel, which surprisingly came today!

Has anyone else read it? Don't spoil it for me, but is it awesome?
