Biggest media circuses??

Postby Astholm » Thu Nov 05, 2009 2:34 pm

What events would you say were the biggest media circuses?
For me, it would have to be:
The O.J. Simpson trial (I was only a kid when it happened though, but it is good to find footage about it on YouTube!)
Death of Michael Jackson (was it overkill, as some papers said)
Britain's postal strike (a current hot event right now - but will the U.S. Mail go the same way?)
Swine flu outbreak
Anything relating to Lindsay Lohan or David Beckham
Taylor Swift/Kanye West awards thing (which has now got the side-effect of the press in Northeast England trying to get every bit of gossip on Taylor Swift!)
Bill Clinton - Monica Lewinsky scandal
British MP expenses' scandal
Rod Blagojevich (Blagogate as we call it here!)
Cheryl Cole (for some reason dubbed Cherylgate!)
The John Demjanjuk incident
Snow in the United Kingdom in February 2009
Bernard Madoff and the scandal surrounding him
The rebrand of British radio stations to "Heart", where they lost their heritage brand-names. Only a small amount were left with the original names.

I wonder what makes good material for a media circus? (not that I'm planning one, just out of morbid curiosity than anything else!)

I have multiple puppets here; only a select few are used to represent the continent of Astholm; others used represent Westholme, and do not artificially boost my nation's statistics.Previously i used puppets with nation names that did not identify as Astholm (e.g. Australis Australia; now all new puppets use ASTHLM, NORTHLM, SOUTHLM, WESTHLM (HLM denoting The Holmes.
NOTE: Other uses of Astholm here have a different continuity and refer to work created by the user Astholm, not the nation

I think every epidemic/pandemic in modern times qualifies. Swine flu was bad, but bird flu and SARs had whole cities wearing masks.

Damn good point, that one is still going on. The Express will be claiming the aliens took her next.

I agree with that point. Reminds me of the JFK conspiracy theories about Lee Harvey Oswald... which is mentioned in some British schools GCSE History syllabus!

Yeah I remember that one from school. Some things just never die.

Aren't you forgetting FOX's bitching on about "Obamunism"?
Jesus God almighty man, look at that lot over there! They've spotted us!
