General Cricket (not the chirpy kind) Discussion Thread

Well with the IPL kicking off today and the English County Championship season just around the corner, as well as the South African Domestic wrapping up, I thought it was about time we had a thread to discuss the world's greatest game.

So who will win the IPL? Kolkota again or a different side? County Championship winners, CB40 and FLT20 winners?

And International Cricket: Who would be in your test cricket world XI? Who are the best in the world at various formats?

My picks:

IPL: Kolkota Knight Riders
LVCC: Somerset (well overdue a title)
CB40: Surrey or Lancashire
FLT20: Impossible to call after Leicstershire won last season.

Their squad I think is a bit thin for a proper County Championship Challenge against the likes of Somerset and Lancs, but they've bolstered their pace attack after losing Shazhad (including Liam Plunkett from Durham  ) and if they get Miller for the T20, then they could be quite handy for that.

Well to be honest I've not really followed County Cricket since the early 90's so I really don't know what the situation is there. Although now that I am back in Leeds I can see myself at Headingley for a few games.

So really I think I'll be more a reader than an active participant for the time being...although I will agree with you that it is the greatest second sport in the world.

While Netball has it's viewing pleasures I refer to football as the number one. Then cricket. Then rallying. Then Rugby League. Then errr....Netball! Yes. Netball! whew!

Is anyone interested on an NS IPL Fantasy League? I can create a private league and it can just be us.

CSK is thru to knockout already. Other teams' SL payers can't play in chennai and CSK has quite a good albeit unfair advantage. Even otherwise CSK has firepower to make it to yet another finals

good match today MI and RCB.

bad idea to have ponting and tendulkar open. Need somebody else open who will go after risky shots. Both are great 50 over batsmen but don't get the tempo of 20 overs.

Good to see a last ball decider in the second match itself though.

Good game but close at the end, still I think Chris Gayle did well even though he was injured.

What is this "IPL"? It sounds infectious.

It certainly doesn't look or sound like cricket.

As someone once said "IPL is like KFC: really nice and exciting once in a while but overall pretty bad for you, whilst test cricket is...a mixed grill"

But IPL has lots of bright colours, it keeps my attention...

What about County Durham? Do they even still have a first class ground?

All about the Mumbai Indians.

Incidentally, Chennai Super Kings sound like a nasty brand of cigarettes only obtainable from the most dubious of healthfood shops.

I'm a Durham fan, and we have the Emirates ICG/Riverside...and the best ever wicket combination: c. Mustard b. Onions

About the IPL: The game between Mumbai and Bangalore was really good IPL drama, last ball drama, a hat-trick of sixes and generally brightly-coloured fun...

To be fair...any healthfood shop selling fags would be quite dubious....

I refer you to my previous posts above...I'm from an era where Durham were...well....

While I like the chirping, they look incredibly gross, and I'm glad we no longer have ten million of them living in our crawlspace.

Oh, wait, you mean the game? Uh, all I really know is that the bats look extremely unweildy.
