Massively flat track. Four wickets in four and a half sessions? Yeesh.

I wish I could discuss cricket here but I don't clearly remember teams after 2010. In my opinion the best years of cricket were in 2007

And we've got to go at them with a half-fit Broad, an out-of-sorts Anderson, Woakes, and Jordan. And occasionally Ali.

Oh feck.

I reckon Broad will do a Harmison 7-12 here. Dunno why, just a feeling. The Indians will be knackered, physically and mentally.

If only, if only...

Nah, I agree with Liv, the pitch is a road (heck, England scored runs on it) and it'll be a run-fest draw...

No, I think they're used to playing on roads and batting after the other team just put up 500. 'Tis the Indian way.

did not see video of match yet..but looks like another trentbridge type pitch.

dhoni picked rohit instead of binny (poor guy, goes to england and gets indian pitches..) probably judging that he may need extra bat to play this one out for a draw?

it is also time to drop dhawan for gambhir. he needs to work this out in the nets. keeps getting out to outside edges.

hope kohli comes good in this one. at least he will be fun to watch even in a boring draw.

Some thoughts on today's play from the ground:
1) The Ageas Bowl is in the middle of fucking nowhere. Thank god for shuttle buses.
2) The hotel-under-construction is an eyesore.
3) Chris Woakes was unlucky not to get a wicket. Bowled well and got good movement.
4) Alastair Cook's captaincy before lunch, wrt his bowlers, was spot on. Right thing to keep Broad and Anderson in different spells until the new ball.
5) Chris Jordan was woeful. Day to forget.

Mmmmm, I went there for an ODI between England and India, took us so long we missed the start of the game, well, the supposed start, but it was raining. Rained all day, we left, then it started and was a cracking 23-over game.

I don't see why we selected Jordan. Plunkett has arguably been our best bowler the whole series, so why drop him? We've seen Jordan isn't that great (he's far too inconsistent for Test cricket, those leg side wides were appalling), so just keep him for ODIs. If Plunkett needs a rest after two tests, then he has serious fitness issues.

Pankaj Singh is the most number 11 looking batsman I've ever seen. 2 feet outside leg stump and swing!

Hmm. Not following on is the best decision, to give Anderson and Broad a rest. But Robson is either not great or just really unlucky, neither of which England need right now. Unfortunately, he's also the best opener we've got at the moment.

Jacques Kallis has announced his retirement from ODI and T20I cricket following his poor ODI series against Sri Lanka, and will not take part in the Cricket World Cup.

JACQUES KALLIS today announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket.

“I realized in Sri Lanka that my dream of playing in a World Cup was a bridge too far,” said Kallis in a statement. “Ï just knew on that tour that I was done. The squad that was in Sri Lanka is an amazing one and I believe they have a good chance of bringing the trophy home in March.

“I would like to thank Cricket South Africa, the team, the team sponsors, my sponsors, the fans and all the people who have been involved in my career. It has been an amazing journey.

“I am not retiring from all cricket as I have a two-year contract with the Sydney Thunder and, if possible, to help the Kolkata Knight Riders defend the IPL title we won earlier this year.”

Cricket South Africa (CSA) Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat, commented: “South Africa has been blessed with one of the world’s greatest cricketing talents in Jacques Kallis. He is undeniably one of the greatest players ever to have graced our wonderful game and he has certainly been the Proteas standard-bearer of excellence for nearly two decades.

“He has played a huge part in making cricket a truly national sport of winners and, in doing so, contributed so much to the important process of nation building. He is a true professional and it has been an absolute privilege to have worked with him both as Convener of selectors and now as Chief Executive.

“To say that we will miss him on the playing field is stating the obvious. Each one of us from this day on will treasure the many fond memories of his awesome career.

“On behalf of CSA and all our stakeholders, I would like to sincerely thank Jacques for his huge contribution to the game of cricket and wish him only the best as he moves on from the international playing arena.”

Ballance gets another stinker of a decision - he never nicked that...

Not been his Test for decisions, has it? At least he scored nearly 200 runs into the bargain.

Whenever I look at live commentary, it's always full of deranged comments from people who want England to declare whatever innings they're in immediately, and who think Jimmy is going to bowl the opposition out by himself in a session or two. No lead is too small for these people. I'm still unconvinced England won't find a way to lose this test. When you only have two bowlers, the wheels have to fall off sooner or later.

If that India win is coming now it's because Dhoni has scored 200+. England might actually win.
