Who is there to replace him though, that's a batsman of that calibre? The only two candidates for the job, that I can think of are Chris Read or Jos Buttler - neither of whom can bat well enough to open (can they?). That said, I don't follow county cricket that closely, so, maybe there is someone like that out there?

Have you misunderstood me? If not, then I entirely misunderstood you.

I meant Prior coming back as an opener with someone else behind the stumps. Just for a couple of years to help us find and then blood a decent youngster.

Oh, yeah sorry. I think I misunderstood you.

Afghanistan have just beaten Zimbabwe in an ODI by two wickets with two balls to spare to keep their four-match series alive at 2–1.

England squad for third Test:
Buttler in, Prior out, Kerrigan out; England otherwise unchanged.

Kane Williamson has been banned from bowling in all organised cricket due to an illegal action.

Was at the airport today, going on holiday. Stood in the immigration queue at Arrivals, and who is standing next to me?

Graeme bloody Swann.

Are there only three or so coaches in the whole country or something?

Speaking of meeting cricketers on holiday, in Sri Lanka, we dined in the same restaurant as the South African team, before being on the same flight back as Sri Lankan wicket-keeper Dinesh Chandimal.

My father sat at the same table as Ricky Ponting at a dinner function once, although apparently he wasn't all that talkative (Ponting, that is).

I think England's selection of Jos Buttler is really indicative of the times - A FC average of 32 and distinctly average glovework - we're only really selecting him based on a ODI record, which frankly will have little bearing when he comes in with England 65/6. It's just a hopeful dream and it probably won't come off.

But then again, I don't see many other options :?

He averages 40.57 this year in the Championship (15 innings), high score 100*.

Meanwhile, Luke Wright and Sussex did this tonight.

I am, on both counts. I'm actually at the Kensington Oval, for a CPL match. Ought to be quite the game.

Watching that right now. Lendl Simmons just hit a massive six straight down the ground. I'm glad BT Sports picked up the competition, although I did watch a bit of the new Royal London One Day Cup, between Lancashire and Yorkshire. Not a very big crowd, but a decent game nonetheless.

England batting first, Cook giving himself even less time to save his captaincy. Woakes (why? yeah I can see why), Jordan (why?) & Buttler (yeah ok) in for Prior, Plunkett and Stokes.

At least England aren't batting 4th this time. That always feels like a recipe for disaster to me.

Plunkett out? Interesting. Can only assume he's picked up an injury because he's been our best bowler this summer.

Forgot the Test started today, put BBC Sport on, and was pleasantly surprised to see our openers make it to 50.

And as I typed it out, Robson falls. FFS.

What do we reckon, push to 400+ by tea and then declare?

It feels weird saying that.

Upgrade that to 450 or even 500 if the afternoon goes as the morning did. Declare at tea.

That was a shite way to get out for Ballance.
