Ben Stokes introduced into the Lions attack and takes two wickets for four runs in four overs. Decent!

English T20 finals day come and gone. What a final it was. Rain-reduced to 18 overs a side but it didn't stop Northants putting up the largest final score in the competition's ten-year history (194/3). David Willey smashed a 19-ball half-ton… then takes a hat-trick in the second innings as Surrey all out for 92.

England 14-man squad to play Australia, fifth Investec Ashes Test, Kennington Oval, August 21–25:
AN Cook (captain), JM Anderson, JM Bairstow, IR Bell, SCJ Broad, ST Finn, SC Kerrigan, KP Pietersen, MJ Prior (wicketkeeper), JE Root, GP Swann, CT Tremlett, IJL Trott, CR Woakes (changes: two out, three in)

Wonder if that's Monty's career over.

Both Kerrigan and Woakes have been handed caps, so with that in mind, I'd go for:

Cook*, Root, Trott, Pietersen, Bell, Woakes, Prior (wk), Broad, Swann, Kerrigan, Anderson

@Liventia: I don't suppose you're at the test match today?

EDIT:
England: 1 Alastair Cook (capt), 2 Joe Root, 3 Jonathan Trott, 4 Kevin Pietersen, 5 Ian Bell, 6 Matt Prior (wk), 7 Chris Woakes, 8 Stuart Broad, 9 Graeme Swann, 10 James Anderson, 11 Simon Kerrigan

Got the lineup, just not the right orders

Aussies win the toss and bat first, and England are playing two spinners at home. I'm leaning towards an Australia win already.

Shit, when was the last time we fielded 5/5 as a line-up?

Certainly batting first favors Australia. The Third Test was the only only one so far Australia batted first.

Really it would be fairer to toss only for the first Test and alternate after that.

I think that would give the home team too much advantage with regards to pitch preparation.

Kerrigan 10 runs off his first over. But still I think there might be something in the LH/RH spin-bowler combination. Two spinners and two pacers, with an all-rounder, provides the maximum number of combinations from the two ends.

Bad time to come into the bowling attack though. OUch, another 4.

Whose idea was it to put Kerrigan on against Watson anyway? Didn't they watch the tour match?

At least, until Watson is out.

And he probably will get out. It's the Watson way: get runs and get out.

Maybe England's plan was to let Watson have a hundred so the Aussies won't drop him for the return series...

It looks like the only way he's likely to get a century is if he does it at a run a ball, because he doesn't last much more than 100 balls usually.

Was working. By which I mean watching Asian Champions League football on one screen (I'm helping cut highlights packages together) and the Test on another.

The first two overs were nightmare stuff. But really not so bad by the end of the day.

Siddle out now, short innings at just under a run a ball. Not bad for a night-watch. (I said before Australia don't use a NW? Well sort of, it's only a switch of one place though)

My favourite up-and-coming Aussie cricketer, Steve Smith, gets his maiden hundred! And with a glorious six to boot 8)

England discard Chris Tremlett's done well at Durham today for Surrey: 4/33 from 17 overs.
EDIT: Make that 5/50 now…
