What?
I'm expecting him to sit out the 5th test, for injury, but his performance in the series isn't justification to stand him down.
He'll be there in Brisbane, count on it.

I mean look at the stats: 45 tests and just 2 centuries. Anyone in the top 7 really should be scoring a lot more than that. His average is significantly beneath his peers, and he rarely makes big contribution's with the ball. What with his prone-ness to being out LBW (whether it be a technical thing or a mental thing), as well as a fragile body, don't you think it's time to give someone else a chance?

He's an all-rounder, so of course his stats with bat aren't top-order, and this stats with ball aren't like a pace bowler who can't bat.
The last decent all-rounder England had was also the best player they had in decades (Botham). Of course, that meant he had to be captain too, which gave the team a single point of failure.
I'm not saying Watson should be captain of course. The captain should always be a dedicated batter, because they're less prone to injury. But he'll stay on the selection list for those times Australia doesn't know before the match whether it needs more bats or more bowlers.

He's had his chance, 45 tests worth of chance, and he simply hasn't performed. Granted he's a supremely talented cricketer, but he hasn't quite cut it at the very highest level. There is a large handful of Aussie crickets (batsmen and bowlers) who've been given an equal chance, have performed better and have still been dropped (Phil Hughes to name one)

Openers should have good averages??
Your previous posts led me to believe that you actually play cricket. ??
Collingwood...
Decent batting average. Bowling though ... no comparison with Botham and inferior to Watson.

Why not just admit that you hate him for something that happened off the field, and now you're gloating because he was injured in this match and then failed with the bat?
I got a bit heated when Khawaja was given out by the third umpire (when he plainly wasn't, which no-one disputes now). Another poster advised me to cool it, so I did.
That poster wasn't YOU. If you'd told me to cool it, I'd have told you to fuck off. You're the worst kind of sports fan, the kind who sulks when your side is losing (that's excusable) but does your best to make the opponent feel bad when your side is winning. That's not excusable: it bespeaks someone who gains more satisfaction from others losing than from you winning. It is, in a word, nasty.

Ailiailia wrote:Putting on Root now is more like a consolation prize for his failure with the bat. Understandable, him being a young player who would benefit from a show of support (kind of like moving Agar up the batting order in the previous Test, or persisting with Khawaja at #3), but at this stage of the game it's just an indulgence.DesAnges wrote:That's not a bad little average that from Root, 23.33.
