I think with or without DRS, the poor umpiring in this series would still have everyone talking.

So, what I think they should do is for the on-field umpire to decide what should be reviewed and what not (like they do for run-outs). If the o-f umpire raises the finger that's out, if they shake their head that's not out, but if they think there is room for doubt they call for the video review.

THEN we rank umpires: if they call for reviews too often, that's a demerit. But if they give out or not-out without reviewing, and that's later shown to be wrong, they suffer an even worse penalty. We make the on-field umpires compete with each other, instead of the current system where their competence is directly challenged by players themselves.

Well I didn't expect Smith to get much: he looked scared. Maybe he always looks scared.

Clarke was particularly disappointing. What he needed to do was start over, batting like Rogers did. Instead they're all batting like the run-fest of the second inning of the previous Test (where yeah, time mattered more than wickets).

Wait, what part of the stumps or bails did that hit?

I think they have a rectangular model of the stumps, extending horizontally out to the edge of each stump and extending vertically to the top of the bails. There is no other explanation for that.
