And why Coolidge? Guy seemed pretty...boring, really.
I think Carter was just unlucky as fuck and got elected at a terrible time, and so became a total scapegoat.

Carter was .......meh the tax on excess oil profits and 65 MPH speed limit were terrible ideas.

That's so tiny in comparison to...say...Buchanan, or Johnson, though.
Letting the South slip through your fingers/letting Reconstruction wither on the vine, to me, does not equal an annoying tax and having to go a bit slower on freeways.

Alright, I'll grant it did happen; I'm not sure that necessarily reflects positively on his presidency though. He was the GWB of his age, only he caused a great deal more damage.

Your right, Coolidge wasn't as bad as some of the others, But he contributed a lot in leading up to the depression, which is why I put him there. Its just my opinion though.

I don't dislike it, but it's pointless, like most nuclear disarmament talks. Both Russia and the USA still have enough nukes to fuck the world over a few thousand times. As they should, it prevents wars.

Reagan "won" the Cold War by driving our country into an obscene debt spiral and essentially bungling every meaningful contact with the USSR because of his Star Wars fixation... Aside from raping Central and South America (as stated), basically kicking black Americans in the chest as hard as he could just when they were poised to get up, expanding the war on drugs and the prison-industrial complex to unprecedented scales, let me see... Nah, great, great man. Didn't you see that cowboy hat?

He only ever met with Gorbachev because Gorbachev himself announced that he was a reformer. Reagan did bugger all to help relations up until that point, he was more concerned with his precious SDI.

This. Gorbachev was moving toward total disarmament. Reagan botched it because stopping space-based missile defense projects was one of the USSR's conditions and, y'know, space weapons were just too viable an option for the US to pass up.

It's not a Republican viewpoint that deterrence is good, necessarily - it hearkens to realist/liberalist views, which don't at all cleanly line up on the R/D spectrum.
Disarmament as a means of reducing tensions and showing the desire to avoid a security dilemma is good, but deterrence does really help in preventing bloody huge ground wars.

Total disarmament would never have happened in a million years. Had they ever seriously moved towards that, Gorby would have been couped immediately.
The Soviets had been using total nuclear and conventional disarmament for years as a talking point. Khrushchev openly admitted it was just a ploy to gain the sympathies of non-nuclear nations, and it always worked - either the Americans looked like warmongerers, or they had to go along with the Ruskies on a white-whale plan neither of them actually wanted to have happen.
It's also a fairly commonly-held opinion in some circles that Star Wars and all the space-based weapons plans were just Potemkin fronts to get the Russians to spend more money countering us, and would never actually have gotten made.
