New Tyran wrote:Here are my problems with feminism.
1 - If feminism really promotes sex equality, why cant they change their name to something more palatable? The term 'feminism' gives the impression that women are looking for female power and not equality.
2 - What do they have against women's beauty and women using that beauty to form a career? After all not all women have intelligence to fall back on. Intelligence is just as much a biological asset as beauty, so why cant women utilise such an asset? Isn't one women's mascara another women's encyclopedia?
3- Also, why should women cover up? How is it liberating women when in actuality you are oppressing them.
4- Why don't some feminists recognise Misandry (interesting how spell check doesn't recognise this as word) as a problem and something that is obviously fuelled by their doctrine? At college for sociology, I was made to study feminism and the oppression of men - but why isn't the opposite pursued for study? (I once did a powerpoint presentation on Misandry and the covert rise that has formed of accepted misandrious beliefs in our society)
5 - Why do feminists complain that society is a patriarchal one? I can speak for experience as my boss is female, that this clearly isn't the case. Our society is built on a meritocracy basis now in the 21st century, so why should we hand women jobs in high power through default and that alone. Wouldn't that constitute, in effect, positive sexism? Which is not equality!
5)Why is violence towards women horrifying and violence towards men funny? I think violence is unnecessary in either situation. But why is a man vilified for being beaten up by a women, but considered a monster when the tables are turned?
6 - Why is the term 'girl power' not considered a form of chauvinism? If it was 'man power' then would it be met with similar reactions? I don't think so.
There are loads more problems I have, but will be here all night typing them.
1 - Because feminism, as a movement, was born to address the inherent marginalization of women in human society. If men had been equally marginalized (which is a rather absurd premise), then
maybe the movement could have been born with a different name. This "problem" is no problem at all, it's just you arguing semantics from an astoundingly ignorant stance.
2 - First of all, that's a massive strawman. Second of all, the feminists that protest such things, they don't do it because they reject physical beauty, but because, in many cases, physical beauty is the ONLY asset that many men respect or even care about in women. It trivializes women and objectifies them.
3 - Where the hell did you get that strawman from? Stop arguing against an imaginary detractor, please.
4 - They don't address misandry because it is not their moral, ethical or ideological responsibility. Feminism addresses the widespread and deeply-seated inequality of women in society. Misandry is, at best, a minoritarian problem that has little to no cultural or social effect on the majority of men, and does not need the input of feminism.
5 - You are speaking from personal experienced and an hugely ignorant view of gender relations in the world. Please, for fuck's sake, inform yourself.
5) Again, where the fuck did you find that strawman?
6 - Strawman
