ah. it feels good to be playing this game again after a long hiatus (several years). Someones post on the earth2025 forums actually reminded me of this game.

Regarding the game, the community tentatively found away around it so will be taking back control of the game like you guys did (in a less direct manner).

Regarding "capitalism" comments: I would probably more equate it to piracy then capitalism or I guess Robber barron's of the 19th century in a very twisted kind of way.

Jolt's business model:

1) Buy something for cheap
2) spend no effort trying to do anything with it
3) spend no effort trying to market it
4) do a worse job running it than the original owner
5) shut it down.
7) profits (we've eliminated a competitor and will heard the new player base towards some game we can charge for).

There was a game before earth that Jolt did this too as well. How a company like that stays in business is beyond me.

I'm done ranting. I'm now going to enjoy playing nationstates again:)

You guys need to remember that jolt online gaming is not the one running the show. OMAC industries bought them out a while ago and now just uses their name. If you remember in Nationstates2, at the bottom of every little web page was a logo that said "Brought to you by OMAC Industries." So in conclusion, OMAC Industries are the ass holes, not Jolt.

Doesn't stop us from using the names interchangeably. We had issues with Jolt before OMAC, too :p

I didn't follow the 'drama' of the exodus form jolt to, uhm, here. But it seems that most of you are continuously blaming Jolt & OMAC for the divorce. Mostly, but not always, both partners did wrong things in a failed relationship. It's suspicious that the entire blame is for Jolt/Omac.

It's been laid out many times already why we (the NS mods in particular) despise Jolt/OMAC:
-The contract said they would make NS2 to Max's specifications. Clauses included not launching a public beta until Max gave it the green light, and that Max would be paid X share of the profits.
-The game they made did not follow Max's specifications hardly at all.
-They launched the public beta despite Max not giving the go ahead.
-They did not pay Max what he was promised, and when Max tried to pry into it they wouldn't respond, and eventually tried to change the terms of the contract without his consent or notification.
-We had been trying for years to get the forum<>game account issue fixed. Numerous users had the problem in which their forum account would break for no apparent reason: Jolt (and later OMAC) were completely uncooperative in trying to nail down and fix it.
-Jolt/OMAC staff overstepped their bounds in deleting Daistallia's forum account and IP banning him for posting highly uncomplimentary reviews of NS2. It took considerable effort by the mods and Max to get them to at least lift the IP ban.
-When Max decided he was going to move NS off Jolt, all of the sudden he was told he only had a few days to get the data moved before the old server would be shut off. It was done, but the extremely tight deadline made it quite a scramble.
-Coincidentally, that's why we were harping so much to people to make backups of threads they can't afford to lose. During the time of the transition, Jolt/OMAC was being extremely hostile to Nationstates and its staff up to and including various retaliations that hampered our ability to do our jobs on the forums; to such a point that we wouldn't discuss anything even in the secret mod lair for fear of being eavesdropped on. Discussion regarding the imminent move and new forums and so on was moved temporarily to a hidden Google group thingie until we got the new forum running.

In other words, Max could very well have gone to court over multiple contract violations and probably have won or at least gotten them to settle it to make the case go away. Unfortunately, the amount of money involved was deemed insufficient for the amount of work it would take to file the lawsuit across national borders, so the boss opted to just cut his losses and get Nationstates and its players safe away from Jolt/OMAC.

Max was the one that decided to split off from Jolt/OMAC, this is true; but he had to make that decision in response to the crappy treatment he and his users were being subjected to.

Reploid Productions,

I didn’t want to give the impression there’s no blame at all for Jolt/OMAC. I’m really prepared to believe you.

For me it’s a classical case of bad or even no analysis, communication mistakes and probably using bad development techniques, etc…

By instance…

Max wrote down his specifications, and Jolt/OMAC didn’t implement them.

What was their excuse? Maybe it was technical or from a cost/benefit position not feasible, maybe they had other reasons.

It seems they didn’t communicate this one with you, which suggests a poor development culture at the side of Jolt/OMAC.

Reploid, always look on the bright side of life. Finally you’re independent now, with all its advantages and disadvantages.

And this surprises you how? Jolt is run by a bunch of gutless unimaginative, humour-deprived accountants who are no better than a bunch of snivelling Ferengi. Comparing Jolt to Ferengi is an insult to the Ferengi. Ferengi will cheat you, but they do it with style.

Honestly, the benefits of independence from Jolt does outweigh the disadvantages. ;)

I objected for my own reasons. One of which you as a player who wasn't around for the original Forum 7 would not have understood: nostalgia. Your description of my reaction is flawed and biased. I objected for the reason many older players objected and if you hadn't sat around with your fingers shoved in your ears, you'd have stood a greater chance of understanding why some of us objected to it. It was never about humour, for there is nothing humorous about childish, repetitive spam. That's all I have to say.
