Gnosticism

Postby Svenen (Ancient) » Tue Nov 03, 2009 8:27 pm

Since there are people who don't understands Gnosticism, I will jot down a few according to my understanding. The Godhead is far away. Godhead emanates existence down to Sophia (Wikipedia: "Sophia can be described as the wisdom of God, and, at times, as a pure virgin spirit which emanates from God. In the Nag Hammadi, Sophia is the lowest Æon, or anthropic expression of the emanation of the light of God.") Sophia tries to create on her own, apart from the godhead, but it turns out abominable, and she's ashamed. It is the demiurge. She hides It in a cloud, and so it does not know of anything higher. It is god of this world. Souls are trapped in lower "gods" (or perhaps "essence")world. I think that a lot of Gnostic myth was of course intended to be exoteric.

Makes as much sense as any other religion I suppose,

I'm in, where do I sign up?
I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

Maybe you could join an organization if you wanted? I don't know. In some Gnosticism, Jesus is like spawn from godhead, so when says you can find him to be saved, just means you find your soul which is foreign to material world, and so raises you up.

Ah then no, I can't be doing with organising anything, too much work.

Can I just make enormous donations instead?

I don't think there is any official Gnosticism organization. They were kind of killed off a lot by the Catholic church. You could probably donate to some organization you found suitable if you wanted.

I don't think this will work as well under Gnosticism. They kind of don't have the same degree of hierarchy.

No, if you want to do that sort of thing it's much easier to use Biblical Christianity and kill off the competition. You might try that instead.

hmmm...like...say...a Raider Nation, like any other Nation will engage in some predawn-Horizontal insertion of forces... it's just that a Raider Nation may not necessarily ask for permission nor insert where you want them to.

Do Gnosticists eat Gnocchi? If so, I'm in... at least during dinner time.

I don't identify as being a Gnostic, I just know some about it. So I don't know.

actually, there are many variations of Gnosticism. each sect teaches unique doctrine and theology. but in general, they all teach a separation between the physical realm where we live and the spiritual realm of God (the true creator), the Demiurge (the jealous and therefore corrupt God of the OT), Sophia (or mother of knowledge), Jesus (redeemer of mankind), and Satan (brother of Christ). each sect also emphasizes that Christ was not a once appearing person. we are each capable of becoming a Christ of sorts. he are to follow in His footsteps to achieve enlightenment.

i have several of the Gnostic gospels and several books by so-called experts on Gnosticism (each of them gnostics).

Aka Distruzio

Anarcho-Monarchism is an anti-egalitarian, anti-democratic, anti-statist, and anti-corporatist, conservative-libertarian movement that stresses tradition, responsibility, liberty, virtue, localism, market anarchy, voluntary segregation and personalism, along with familial, religious, and regional identity founded upon self-ownership and personified by a totem monarch.

So maybe Southron can answer a number of questions better than I can if he wanted.

This would indicate that you have good hearing. You should consider yourself lucky, what with all the loud music.

This is the book I have: Pagels, Elaine (1979). The Gnostic Gospels. pp. 182 pages. ISBN 0-679-72453-2.

I found her a little presumptuous in her writing and couldn't get much past the 2nd or 3rd chapter, if anyone knows of a better book I'd be happy to read it, otherwise I'll remain content with Wikipedia.
