See how ridiculous that sounds?

Of course it sounds ridiculous. Evolution sounds ridiculous, yet it is true. My opinion is my own.

actually, evoltion in a nutshell
"Over time, things change."
"The fittest species survive the best and have more kids."

Sounds kinda rational to me

Well, it does sound ridiculous in a different context. Same thing for rationalizing against same sex marriages, I'll admit that I can't. Someone probably can efficiently, and with conviction.

the only problem with same sex marriage is that when the child calls out "dad" or "mum" two people are going to answer
"First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out." - Pastor Martin Niemöller

Such a minor and easily solvable problem by not referring to both of them by the same term... My family does this dealing with certain things.... "Grandma" is called "Grandma" by both the Grandkids and Great-Grandkids... my Aunt is called "Meemaw" by her grandkids.... my aunt/uncle/mom do call my Grandma "Mumma"... My "Mom" however is refered to as "Susta" (Sister) by the cousins, neices and siblings (though I call her "Mom")... Most Great-Aunts / Great-Uncles are merely refered to a "Aunt" or "Uncle" who-ever, even by the great-grand neices/nephews....

Terminology adapts....

Yes. Simply because there are significant economic advantages to being married. Call it civil unions if you want, frankly I don't give a fuck what it is called as long as same sex couples can take advantage of those privileges as well.

Reading some of the replies in this thread makes my fucking head hurt.

I could try to discuss this in a nice long-winded debate, but honestly people who say that same-sex marriage is a slippery slope and will lead to people marrying dogs are just throwing out the Hitler card and I can only address that by responding with a salmon slap. Unfortunately this is the internetz and instead I ask that the people reading this who use the 'slippery slope' argument please promptly face-desk until they lose consciousness. Thanks.

Of course it doesn't matter. However...this.
Counter-arguments like “so was slavery” are unconvincing, as the occasional slights suffered by homosexual couples are microscopic by comparison with the injustice of human beings buying and selling other human beings

There really is a slippery slope here. Once marriage has been redefined to include homosexual pairings, what grounds will there be to oppose futher redefinition — to encompass people who want to marry their ponies, their sisters, or their soccer team?

In a society in which nobody had an IQ below 120, homosexual marriage might be plausible. In the actual societies we have, other considerations kick in.

There has never, anywhere, at any level of civilization, been a society that approved egalitarian (i.e. same age, same status) homosexual bonding

Think about it, I think the author makes a strong argument.

While I agree that the benefits of marriage is the main thing, refusing to call it a marriage implies that homosexuality is not accepted as equal to heterosexuality.

I disagree with a name differentiation as well.... Simple because it allows for segregation of the legal institutions between the two and a cop-out systems for states to avoid the full-faith-and-credit clause...

As such, I'm for them BOTH being called by the same legal term, I don't care if that term happens to be marriage or not.... but if you're going to have "civil unions" then remove "marriage" from the books and make ALL forms "civil unions"...

Let's not even mention the leap from redefining to encompass a class of consenting persons to somehow slope into allowing the marriage to farm-animals and children.... Just the FACT that someone posits that automatically nullifies their entire argument.... Course, I'm not totally certain that the class of individuals actually realize how absurd they are...

EDIT: It should also be of note that the people most likely to WANT to marry their farm-animals are in the Red-States....

But homosexuality is a genetic trait. And genes are passed on through evolution. And you know who else supported evolution? That's right, HITLER!

Evolution is a lie, the earth was created in six days exactly, seven hundred years ago, and all of the evidence to the contrary was just planted by Satan to fool the unintelligent.
