Look, if you read the letter, the entire body of the thing reads (in first letters only) like this:

I Fuck You

Obviously, Ahhhnuld is gay for San Fran.

The state has no money. I'm all for taxing the rich more, since we decided to screw the budget by cutting property taxes back in the 70's.

Tax the rich more and have the poor pay less taxes. I think it's stupid how the rich always get away with not paying taxes.

It's a great idea until you realize that it'll stamp out the rest of the people supporting the economy.

FFS, since when has "a balanced economic plan" been synonymous with "running up deficits and then taxing everyone"?

California never had budget problems before we cut our taxes to obscene levels. Schools, including the UC, were properly funded and some of the best in the nation. Now, since we've decided we don't want to pay jack shit for anything, that is most definitely no longer the case.

We've decided we don't want to pay jack shit on anything... by funding high speed rail from San Diego to San Francisco. Then again, it seems like every other day a water main somewhere in Los Angeles bursts. I guess we've prioritized our needs well.

Edit #1: Also, wasn't the idea of keeping property taxes low for *encouraging* more people to move to California and increase state revenue through income taxes?

Edit # 2: This article seems to refute you're statement about our income tax level: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/money_c ... a-tax.html

EDIT #3: Okay, so the URL says it's an LA TImes blog... so, uh... blah.

It's an LA Times blog...

Property taxes are the big one. No it was not a "Let's encourage people to move to California" thing. It was done out of fear due to inflation. Quite understandable fear, especially those on fixed incomes. But it screwed over our budget and especially our education system.

One problem is that amending our constitution is too damn easy, and passing a budget is too damn hard. Because the legislature often deadlocks due to the ridiculous 2/3rds requirement for budget passing, often the referendum system is used basically for authorizing projects/passing legislation instead. This sets up a system where it's relatively easy to get projects and programs approved via ballot propositions, but extremely difficult to actually fund them. Meanwhile, the education budget is constantly raided for funds in other areas, leading to the collapse of California's education system, and the coming demise and dismemberment of the once great University of California.

Of course it wasn't a coincidence. You'd need to be braking the Heart of Gold down out of infinite improbability for it to happen by accident.

By why waste breath on Schwarzeneggar - a man who one sent a sculpture of brass bulls bollocks to his political opponents to encourage them to grow some cojones - when this thread can turn into a discussion of acrostics.

Lewis Carroll's was particularly good at these (leaving aside our slight feelings of queasiness about his fascination with pre-adolescent nude girls). His dedication of "The Hunting of the Snark" to Gertrude Chataway not only spells out her name, but reproduces it in phonetically in the first word of each stanza:

Girt with a boyish garb for boyish task,
Eager she wields her spade: yet loves as well
Rest on a friendly knee, intent to ask
The tale he loves to tell.

Rude spirits of the seething outer strife,
Unmeet to read her pure and simple spright,
Deem, if you list, such hours a waste of life,
Empty of all delight!

Chat on, sweet Maid, and rescue from annoy
Hearts that by wiser talk are unbeguiled.
Ah, happy he who owns that tenderest joy,
The heart-love of a child!

Away, fond thoughts, and vex my soul no more!
Work claims my wakeful nights, my busy days-
Albeit bright memories of that sunlit shore
Yet haunt my dreaming gaze!

The epilogue to Alice in Wonderland is also an acrostic, this time for Alice Liddell:

A boat, beneath a sunny sky,
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July -

Children three that nestle near,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Pleased a simple tale to hear -

Long has paled that sunny sky:
Echoes fade and memories die:
Autumn frosts have slain July.

She still haunts me, phantomwise,
Alice moving under skies
Never seen by waking eyes.

Children yet, the tale to hear,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Lovingly shall nestle near.

In Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die:

Ever drifting down the stream -
Lingering in the golden gleam -
Life, what is it but a dream?

Regrettably obscure 1960s Science Fiction writer Cordwainer Smith (in real life psychological warfare expert Paul Linebarger) - about whom I once wrote a published academic paper on the applicability of his work to archaeological theory - also managed to get a couple of interesting acrostic into the "On the Storm Planet" chapter of his serial novel The Quest of the Three Worlds that shows contemporary events unfolding as he was writing. In the original February 1965 publication, page 38 has a "KENNEDY SHOT" acrostic, followed by "OSWALD SHOT TOO" on page 68.

It's fake. If Arnie wrote the letter, it would've been like THIS:
