Foreign Exchange Student Program

Postby Lizardiar » Mon Nov 02, 2009 3:02 pm

NSG, what do you think of the Foreign Exchange Student Program? I think it offers a lot to the student. It shows different cultures, traditions, and a new way of life.

What do you think of them NSG? I need your infinite wisdom!

As delightful as it might be for some people to exchange their kids for nice polite foreign kids, I bet some of them would rather have a cash refund. ;)

I never were a foreign Exchange Student...

But I participated in an Exchange Program, and that formed the best 4 months of my life!

So I am all in favour of them.

I can only say that going abroad and settling in a different culture for a while can only broaden your mind and learn you some valuable things in life (like home sweet home) :)

Hmm, I was a high school exchange student to Germany. It taught me that stereotypes are sometimes true. And also, a world run by the Germans would be truly horrible. Clean, but horrible.
The kind of middle-class mentality which actuates both those responsible for strategy and government has little knowledge of the new psychology and organizing ability of the totalitarian States. The forces we are fighting are governed neither by the old strategy nor follow the old tactics.

Though I still xchange Xmas cards with the family that hosted me. Froehliche Weihnachten and all that shit. That's only because of my polite English upbringing though.

Hmm, that's why once the Germans have conquered the world they should abdicate in favour of the Dutch. We're also clean but probably much less horrible 8)

One of my relatives is married to a Dutchperson. I have to say that the Dutch are sort of a hybrid between the English and the Germans*. In what proportion the good and the bad have been combined remains open to question however.

*There aren't many Dutch, so it's often overlooked that they are, if possible, even meaner than a scottish person. Still I like them. Except for that airport. It's horrible.

We don't have such a thing where I live (well, I haven't heard of any school with that programme anyway). But I'd love to be able to study somewhere else in the world, to get to know the place and its people better. Likewise, having a foreign exchange student come here would be equally as interesting.

I have no objection in principle to foreign students coming over here...

So long as they don't talk in their funny little language, desecrate our homes and schools through practice of some non-Christian deviant religion, damage our patriotic values by supporting a foreign team in any sport while over here, or use their black magic to poison our wells.

But an exchange? Why would anyone want to leave Britain, even for a short period?

Anyone who tried that needs a padded cell, not a plane ticket.

Yes, I would also say that. We're very much like Germans in terms of neatness, but when it comes to humour, we're quite similar to British, we're probably the most sarcastic people on the European mainland. At least that's my experience with various people. Too bad I don't that many British people though, so I can't say much about how we relate to you guys.

I'd also say that Austrians are wicked cool, they're like Germans in terms of neatness, but they've got this more relaxed attitude (which you can also find a bit more in the south of the netherlands compared to the north; perhaps it is a catholic thing?).

The dutch thread is therefore mainly made up of taking the piss out of each other and the occasional trolling post of a non-dutchie is met with sheer ridicule :D

However, when it comes to soccer we're like neither of you (especially not like the Germans, we're less team spirit/fighting until the last second and more wanting to play it beautifully).

Is American English a funny little language ?

The language is just about close enough to pure English to be tolerable, though it does pain me to see your writings. What I can't stand about you jumped-up arrogant former colonials is your unrelenting individualism. So focused on "me" you even remove the "u" from words like colour, flavour, labour etc. It's simply maddening.

I'm American; I've never even spoken to a British person in person, but I use the British variant while writing. Am I racist?

And besides, DI's comment was merely in jest.
