Columbus' route was fine, it was those islands and continents that someone left lying around in his way that were the problem.

I'd have Oliver Cromwell live long enough to, either, put the House of Stewart to death or firmly establish the Lord Protector's legitimacy. Failing that, I'd convince to pass the title onto someone more moderate or amiable than his son.

He didn't screw up his route he was right on track. He was supposed to go west until he reached the indies. Remember: no one knew America existed back then. That's why he called the natives Indians. He thought he landed in the indies.

Not to diminish the atrocities carried out against the Native Americans but I'd say the above is probably based on a patronising, idyllic conception of the culture of the noble savage rather than on anything that is even remotely true.

True. Native Americans were quite happy to kill each other before Europeans arrived. Once they did, the natives had even better weapons to do it with.

Yeah. They were pretty terrible to POWs and civilians (both abroad and in Japan itself).

Like I said, Imperial Japan was fucking insane.

One war crime that they were accused of by the US was water-boarding. Truly a war crime that only crazy Nippon could do.

You have to leave Ayn Rand. Who would we mock? And what's so important about the Antikythera mechanism? It was an interesting curiosity, certainly, but hardly earthshaking.

So you'd rather have a large section of untamed land instead of modern North, and South America? There goes all inventions/innovations by people from north, and South America.

You should think about the consequences before saying something like that.

Sure you could. And without packaged food, modern medicine, manufactured clothing? Having only stone and bone tools to do everything? I think not.
