If you could change history

Everytime you look through the history books, as vast as they may be you always stumble across something that makes you think, "If only that could've changed."

For instance, some stumble across the Crusades and wish they could erase those wars from history. Why? It would save lives and prevent nearly 5 wars that cost tons of money and blood. Because of the crusades Europe was plagued with prejudice against others, Jews and Muslims. But as I was going over the Crusades today and I realized something. The Crusades, much like WWII, really stimulated European Economy. For instance, before the Crusades the Byzantine Empire and the Islamic Empire pretty much controlled the economy. However, the Crusades brought a large amount of trade, technology, and money into Europe. The War caused money to circulate and did for Europer what WWII did for the USA.

The questions is this, if you could change something in history what would it be and why? But to make it interesting, and since everything in history would have an effect on later history, how would this change effect the future? (Try to be realistic on the second question)

How many men who die getting on the Island? And as I remember the Soviets were prepared to help invade. Would they have ended up with a slice of Japan? Would we have seen a North and South Japan?
