I would never confuse 'than' and 'that' when writing, it's purely a function of typing - I never confuse 'they're' and 'their' when writing either but often do so typing.
Do you make different mistakes between the two, or do you ever actually write anything more than you signature anymore anyway?

Same thread as me, where I noticed a stray word in one of my posts after the thread was locked.
When typing, I find I stop and start sentences more frequently than if I'm putting pen to paper, so the inevitable result is that the beginning and end of some of my sentences don't make perfect sense, as my train of thought shifted along the way due to the break. I can get distracted by another discussion or a video game or a website on the computer more easily than I can get distracted when putting pen to paper.

I notice it every time I do it, and I decidely know the difference between what I intended to type and what I actually typed. It's mildly annoying, but not too much of an issue unless someone calls me on it.

For me I very much suspect a different part of the brain deals with typing than writing, it may be the case that I type much faster than I write and therefore the issues others write about - which I also go through - are a result of not particularly thinking when typing.
However, for various reasons, I come back to the thought that we type differently, more in line with how we speak, than when we write.
if you transcribe speech, it's filled with the same errors Sdaeriji points to, broken sentences, switches in focus and etc., the listener's brain can streamline those into coherence. I suspect we type closer to how we speak compared to writing, which I'd say is handled differently.

Poliwanacraca wrote:I do make mistakes in typing, largely due, as far as I can tell, to muscle-memory. I will not infrequently find that I have turned one word into another halfway through - so, for example, I might set out to type "examine" and find that I have typed "example," because I use the latter more often and my fingers simply took over for my brain. It's rather annoying. Luckily, I almost always catch those immediately, but I feel like a bit of a doofus when the occasional seemingly-obvious error slips through.

Aelosia wrote:I suck at typing in english. While I have a record in spanish I am proud of. (Not letting one typo off in more than three years working in news reports), my english is more than just flawed. Typos in grammar figures, funny and ridiculous expressions and sentences, and wrongly used words are a commonplace for me.
That said, I almost never write in english. I almost always type.
When I do write, in my native tongue, I tend to use a slow, extremely baroque style of writing. Blame the "Palmer Method of Calligraphy" the nuns forced on me when I was young. I handwrite so slowly that is a pain. Plus, I am a lefty, so I usually end with the lateral part of my pinky finger stained with ink or with pencil. I hate handwriting.
