In seriousness, I think I'd just take any four great scientists from the ancient world, and Stephen Hawking, and enjoy an evening of having these great men and women caught up to speed on the state of discovery.

But what if your choices wreck up dinner? Adolf Hitler would probably be moody and quiet, complain about the food, and go on and on about "the Jews", even if you invited Jesus!

I think a lot of our choices, if we look at the logic behind them, would be complete disasters, especially to those who chose Tamerlane or Genghis Khan...

i would probably invite five of the same people my housemates invite over almost every satyrday anyway.

or five of the young, living artistic people who's work i know from the net, who i doubt most of you here would know anyway either.

or i could name five science fiction authors who have died within the last ten years.

i'm not that big on people and names, mostly, and as far as dining, its one of those things like sleeping, traveling and creating 'art', i seem to have found i enjoy best without the distraction of human company.

Good one. Let's see...

For really nice, interesting and entertaining conversation

Stephen Fry
Dirk Bach (RIP :()
Leonardo da Vinci
The Queen Mum
Victoria Coren

For a bit of eye candy on top of that

Prof Brian Cox
Neil Oliver
Reginald D Hunter
Ross Noble
Rufus Hound
"I was walking along the bank of a stream when I saw a mother otter with her cubs. A very endearing sight, and as I watched, the mother otter dived into the water and came up with a plump salmon, which she subdued and dragged on to a half-submerged log. As she ate it, while of course it was still alive, the body split and I remember to this day the sweet pinkness of its roes as they spilled out, much to the delight of the baby otters who scrambled over themselves to feed on the delicacy. One of nature’s wonders: mother and children dining upon mother and children. And that’s when I first learned about evil. It is built in to the very nature of the universe. If there is any kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become his moral superior."

Are we talking about all at once, like a dinner party? Because then the group would have to be constructed with group dynamics in mind. For instance, I'd love to meet both Elizabeth Blackwell and Freddy Mercury, but I don't think they'd be particularly fascinated with each other as dinner companions.

Nah, I'm just really curious exactly as to what his beef with me is. Like, he's neither stupid nor impulsive. And we're not oppressing/occupying Lebanon anymore so he doesn't really have a reason to be angry. AND, it's not like he cares about Palestinians either (he wants them out of Lebanon just as much as we want them out of here).

1. Mark Twain for sure.

2. Robin Williams, preferably on crack.

3. Abraham Lincoln.

4. Theodore Roosevelt.

5. Winston Churchill.

Best dinner party ever. Not to mention that everyone would love everybody, especially because I'd supply them all with the amount of alcohol needed to get Churchill hammered alone. Me and Abe though would probably lay off the drinking and keep discussing things while the rest feel asleep on a pillow drool.
