That, and a lot of it probably stems from the all the anti-immigrant and anti-Catholic propaganda from the 1800s.

The statistics say that almost every type of Eastern European not from Serbia, Greece, or Albania drinks more than the Irish. Of course, the heavy drinking Eastern Europeans were not around in large numbers to prove to Americans that Irish weren't the worst alcoholic group of people.

You don't have to be the worst to be bad.

Another thing is the way people view the Irish as being somehow inherently more "awesome" because they drink more or whatever, rarther than seeing them as just, people.

The problem is that Ireland is number four in beer alcohol consumption and in the top half in all other types of alcohol consumption. So they are seen drinking more because beer doesn't contain as much alcohol as wine or spirits on average. Fortunately, the country has an abnormally high sobriety rate (22%) of people who don't drink at all.

Well I am a quarter Irish and judging from my Irish family members they are very religious and have an un-understandable accent. However they are generally good people and live by strong morals.

I, as a Western Norwegian, really like Ireland and the Irish. Here in Western Norway we have tight cultural and historical bondings with Ireland. The patron saint of the region is Irish,it was the irish who Christianized us here on the coast, and much of (especially the religious) myths, arts and crosses, is closely linked to that from Ireland. Also, I find the culture and music from Irealand to be great, as with the original Irish language.

Physically Ireland is perceived to be a beautiful country here. However the Irish people tend to be perceived in a generally negative way. They are viewed as being overly-religious, alcoholic, and even unintelligent. Of course not everyone here believes those stereotypes. As a person who has been to Ireland I know for a fact that those stereotypes are mostly false.

Yes, unsurprisingly, the Irish have mastered air travel.

Well "mastered". Ryanair usually gets to the right country, at least.
