Did that include Sean Bean? Or was it just John Tams, Jason Salkey and the rest of them (delete cast members as appropriate).

famous is something remote

meeting someone, famous or not, is something personal.

you meet someone they are a person, whatever else about them.

famous is something up on a stage or on corporate media.
in person a person is just a person.

the burdon of fame is more people wanting to meet them then there would be time for anything else in their life.

but when you meet someone, just think of them as meeting anyone else.
then it's cool. you've met someone as a person.

only when i was very young did i even imagine i would want to be famous.
then when i was a little older i wanted to earn credit for doing certain things
in the world i felt were needed and would like to see done.
now that i'm even older then that, i just like to see those things done,
and could really care less who actually does them, as long as something
enough like them gets done.

people who get famous are pretty much just as diverse as everyone else.
most i've met, on a one to one, just want to be though of like anyone else,
when it comes to people they know personally.

although i've met one or two exception. at least that's the impression she
gave me of the one who made a big deal, although at least she didn't mention
my name, probably because she had no good reason to remember it, or
possibly out of courtisy, out of my having accidentally stepped on her foot.

most people i meet randomly i don't really meet at all, famous or otherwise,
and don't really notice nor have the slightest idea who they are.

undoubtedly some of them might be in some way or another 'famous'.
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.

"economic freedom" is "the cake"

I've met quite a few famous people through work or friends, but I can't say I've ever accidentally met a celebrity. It seems like accidentally running into a famous person in their daily life might be a bit cooler. It's a much better story to tell people if you just ran into a celebrity randomly, and it's probably a lot more fun to meet a famous person when they're out being a regular person, instead of when they're in celebrity-mode.

I met a couple people through my Dad whenever I was ill from school. He worked freelance in film, and so if he was working then he'd just take me along to work. Sometimes to people's houses.

I met Emma Thompson and Greg Wise that way. I never recognised them whilst I was there, but on the way home I commented on an Oscar I saw in the house. I thought it was a replica, but my Dad informed me that it wasn't... oops.

So yeah, whenever I meet a famous person I'm normally to wrapped up in my own world that I fail to recognise them. Like with Emma Thompson I was sat in the kitchen whilst she, in a pajamas, offered me tea and biscuits.

I don't know how famous they are but i've seen a few well known sci-fi guys once. I was dragged along to a convention, and i found it pretty boring, i'm not hugely into sci-fi.
other than that no.

I'm sure I have. At least I've met people who asked me if I know who they are, and for the politeness sake I replied that I recall having seen them on TV or have heard the name. If I was a little less arrogant, I think I would probably even remember who they actually were.
There is a line most people say they will never cross. It is usually something they have done long ago when they thought no one was watching.

I've met Karmichael Hunt before in a nightclub. The encounter made me truly believe the stories about him and that nightclub toilet.

I've also met a few locally famous djs before.

I bumped on Pink, 5 years ago or so, while at a club in Madrid. And I worked for the Spanish PM for 2 years, if that counts for meeting famous people.

Oh, yeah, I went to school with Formula I star Fernando Alonso.

I went into school one day and was told that I was being carted off to stand in the library and meet Prince Charles, that was odd. I had lunch with Shaun Woodward (MP, and Secretary of State for Northern Ireland), and also with Des Browne (at the time Secretary of State for Defence). Bill Clinton was at my school one day, but I didn't see him. George Bush drove past me. Erm, that's probably about it for famous political figures.

The rest of this is people I've seen randomly in the street, or in a shop, or a bar. Wherever:
I've had constitutional law lectures from Lord Norton of Louth.
James Nesbitt standing outside the City Hall in Belfast.
Ian Paisley Jr in a shop I worked in.
Gerry Armstrong in the same shop.
Natalie Portman standing about a metre to my right at an Explosions in the Sky gig in Belfast.
I had a drink once with two of the three members of Scottish band Biffy Clyro (Simon and Ben. Simon is hot.)
I stood and watched as one of my friends got destroyed by Alex Higgins at pool in a bar in Belfast.
I saw George Best walking through town one day.
Had my photo taken with Alex Ferguson when I was a kid, too.
Met seven-time GP bike racer Phil Read at a few motorbike races, he knows a relative of mine.

That's it for now. If I remember any more I'll post.

I've met the odd local (read: NZ) celebrity - a couple of rugby and cricket players, a couple of politicians, the occasional musician or tv personality. but no-one truly famous internationally or in the US.
Federal Prime Minister - James Erriksen.

ANYWAY, to make this "not a blog", this leads into my actual topic. Ever meet someone famous, randomly and accidentally? On the street, or in a bar, or stumbling on to a movie set? Share.

Usually my wife has to tell me who they are... We lived in Monterey, CA for a while and ran across a number of celebrities. The sole exception was once when I was in Boston, waiting in a line. A fellow pushes forward through the line and when I stop him, he lets me know that he's John Kerry. I say, "Who?" and he answers that he's a United States Senator. I tell him he's still behind me in line -- to no avail, of course.

Teddy Kennedy was much nicer. I was staying in an old hotel near Union Station -- back in the '70's when I had just been commissioned in the Marine Corps. I went to the bar for some dinner and saw a crowd enjoying themselves. My short hair must have made me stand out because one fellow asked me if I was in the service and I told him so. He congratulated me and bought us a drink. After a few minutes, my wife asked me if I knew who that was, of course I didn't. She had to tell me that it was the Senator.

Somehow, I always miss out on the close encounters with celebrities. =(

I've randomly met many of the local musicians in my town, which is kind of a big deal, since I live in one of the music capitals of the world. I won't list them for fear of giving away my location.

I've also attended a few lectures, seminars etc. by famous people on my college campus.
