As the first person in this thread to nominate the dodo: because they're cute, because they were not afraid of humans and would thus hang out with us and be our friends, because humans as a species should feel actively guilty about the fact that they are gone in a way that we don't need to about, say, a dinosaur, and because anything native to Mauritius is inherently fascinating from an evolutionary perspective.

There's plenty of other good candidates, too, but I do like the idea of bringing the dodo back.

I'm thinking either Edestus giganteus, Isurus hastalis, Piscolithax, Eurhinodelphis, Brygmophyseter, Hainosaurus bernardi, Clidastes propython, Oncorhynchus rastrosus(I'm not shitting you; there was indeed a saber-toothed salmon), Kronosaurus queenslandicus, any Arthrodire placoderm, or Sarcoprion edax. Maybe some sharks of the Carcharocles genus so I can finally figure out which the tooth I have belongs to.
