I honestly think it should be handed over to the Argentinians because of how close they are to Argentina. Besides it did use to be Argentinian/Spanish/whatever until the Brits conquered it. Plus Argentina would finally stop bitching about it.

I'm not. I'm making a note that people tend to like the situation they are in if it is good, and that is the only justification the British government needs to keep the islands. because the inhabitants want them to.

I guess the only way to see how they felt is to be Falklander. Regardless of their choice, Argentina's a crumbling, debt ridden nation thanks to their nuts president, so Britain would definitely better.

Actually, I seem to recall a UN convention saying something along the lines of Argentina having a geographical right to the Falklands due to contiental plates or some such. I'll see if I can dig it up.

I don't think so, it was something about contiental plates. The body of the arguement was the the Falklands and Argentina shared the same plate, and as the closest mainland country, the islands were a "natural" continuation of the Argentine mainland. I could be very wrong though, and confusing it with Rockall or Spitzbergen. IIRC it's the same arguement that's been applied to places like Seeland, but with the other claims taking precedence.
