That is because the US has a military presence all over the globe. Don't confuse spending with actual competence. Need I remind you how the big, bad US military struggled against improvised explosives and WWII tech in the "War on Terror"?

Go and have a chat with the Arabs,they started with sticks and stones,we have about 300 million guns individually owned right now. People forget that there are many other ways to commit violence and murder, and that as long as these ways exist (and the predatory nature that drives some people to commit these acts), guns will be needed or self defense.

That along with the repeated ignoring of the fact that "assault weapons" are the least likely weapon to be used in crime, and the constant demonization of gun-owners, makes it impossible to hold any respect for the gun-control lobby.

The gun control club fails at logic,"OMG WE HAVE SKY HIGH GUN-RELATED MURDER RATES!!!!1111 WHAT DO WE DO?? BAN A "CLASS" OF FIREARMS USED IN LIKE 1% OF GUN CRIME AND 0.2% OF ALL VIOLENT CRIME ALTOGETHER,OBVIOUSLY! "

The gun control lobby has no interest in reality. Otherwise they would:

Not keep demonizing gun-owners (the vast majority of whom are responsible, law-abiding citizens),

Deliberately misinforming the public, by misidentifying firearms (assault rifle/weapon means full auto),

Ignoring the truth about firearms statistics (murders, including firearms murders have been on a downward trend for years, and rifles are the least likely to be used in homicides),

Ignoring any source that does not agree with their own viewpoint by screaming "bias" (even when the FBI is the source),

Expecting people to accept their sources as unbiased even when they are obviously not (Brady campaign anyone?),

Continually trying to obscure the issue with the whole "if guns then why not nukes" argument.

Blatantly ignoring or demonizing anyone who uses a gun in self defense (remember the thread about the Ga mom?)

Ignoring a persons natural right to self defense.

Ignoring the fact that guns will not magically disappear, nor will the predatory instinct that makes them necessary for self defense, no matter what gun control laws are passed.

Ignoring the fact that gun laws do nothing to deter crime and in fact only harass/restrict the law-abiding.
