Not saying swords are superior to firearms for self-defense: they aren't, and there's a few very good reasons we stopped using swords in any significant manner on the battlefield. In fact, I'd rather we be able to label swords as cultural items than as weapons, simply because the majority of users don't intend to own them as weapons in any case. But swords have been specifically designed for hunting, and have a very understandable use for it.

I love how the wiki entry for the hunting sword specifically states it's for finishing off an animal after it's been shot. As to the boar sword, I really don't think you'd get close enough to a deer, or prairie dogs, or turkeys, etc to use that or any other sword. I know I wouldn't WANT to get close enough to a bear, a moose, mountain lion, etc to use a sword.

It's not going to happen anytime soon in the US. 44 states have the right to bear arms in their state constitutions, and the federal government is going to need at least 38 states to ratify a repeal of the Second Amendment (after getting 2/3 of each of the House and Senate to vote for it). So state constitutions would probably have to change first, and I bet there'd be serious opposition to even that.

I'm just hoping it doesn't get any worse here in CT, our governor is pushing for some significant increases to the ban (going from 2 evil features to 1, adding to what constitutes an evil feature, mag ban with no grandfathering of mags already owned, recording of ammo sales, permitting for semi-auto long guns, etc).
