No... he was born a man.

And now he wants to be a woman.

No. Nobody is "born" a "man" or a "woman." We're born human beings with male or female sex characteristics, but that's a whole different bag. Stop pretending you're an authority on this shit because you have no clue what you're talking about and it's painfully obvious to the rest of us.

Social constructs do exist, but they exist as social constructs. Sort of like how the value of money is real, even though it's basically just what we all collectively decided it should be.

In an objective sense, yes. All "gender" is are collections of traits that people label as something, even though these labels end up being loosely defined anyway. Anyone can have any trait. The idea of "gender" then is a social construct. We are all just human beings, with variation between us. Not some mystic collection of separate groups, that are drastically different.

Gender is a social label for an arbitrary and vague series of external behaviors. It's not fundamentally relevant to who you are as a person.

Hmm, so the question remains, are there any real difference between the terms "gender" and "sex"? If so, is a person attracted to another person based on sex, or by gender?

I guess it depends on tastes... and that's not a two-valued issue. For some (likely, for most), it's a combination of factors: their own sex, their own gender, the other's sex and the other's gender.

Yes.

If so, is a person attracted to another person based on sex, or by gender?

Yes, there are differences. Gender is whats between your ears. Sex is what's between your legs.

The terms we use for sexual attraction are based on gender.

1) Hank Green touches on the subject in an episode of Vlog Brothers. But the short answer? Yes, there is a difference.

2) I don't see why it's either or between gender or sex. Why could it not be both?

I base willingness for romance on whether or not I would be capable of sexual intimacy with that person. I think if a self-described man had a vagina I would find myself capable of feeling that kind of connection. I'm still young, so I don't have it very well mapped out, but that seems to be where I gravitate.

The sex would be terrible, but I suppose the cuddling afterwards might be okay.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of that too, and then the whole "but they violated my trust!" is moot.

This is pure speculation on my part, but I have a strong suspicion that trans* people probably have ways of testing the waters and seeing how their partner might react. I imagine they don't want to date anyone who'd go "ewww, gross!" anymore than those types would want to date them.

It doesn't exist.

It's part of a liberal progressive agenda in which people can choose to be things they are not. You are born either male or female based on your physical characteristics... that's it.

Anyone who wants to be something else is just that... a male who wishes he were female or a female who wishes he were male.

Sex is a scientific categorization... gender is not.

Are you even reading the conversation? You claim that because, at some point in the past, someone was once a man, then kissing them is ewwwwwwww. Whereas the fact that, at some point in the past, they were a child doesn't bother you in the slightest. That has some implications.

And yes, it's exactly the same thing. A little boy growing up into a beautiful woman is no different than a little girl growing up into a beautiful woman. Just because it's not the progression that you, personally, would expect doesn't mean shit. The fact of the matter is that what they are now is a woman. Why should it matter what they were in the past.

Edit: Also, if that's true, you really haven't been on the internet long have you?

Bullshit.

I wouldn't say it doesn't matter. I personally am staring to agree with the idea of the gender spectrum with a masculine side, a feminine side, and anything else in between.

Not really. Gender's a pretty integral part of identity of the self.
