I believe that they should be encouraged, as long as they are intensely tested and labeled as GM.

Label them so people can be able to know what they are buying. That is my opinion on the genetically modified foods as knowledge is half of the battle.

I agree. As long as they don't genetically modify broccoli, which is good as it is.

nope. Though I appreciate some companies when they label foods saying "we did not use (insert name here) hormone in our products" or something like that

While genetically modified foods can have some adverse effects (for instance, the bT toxin found in one strand of genetically modified corn can transfer to the pollen and kill insects that come into contact with it), the issues are most often eradicated after testing, and GM foods are also very helpful. For instance, Golden Rice, engineered to contain more beta-carotene, has saved thousands of lives from Vitamin A deficiency.

Extra packaging adds to the cost of the product. Anyway, I wanted angry face to answer. He seems rather exercised about it.

Now, it should be noted that in many cases, beneficial genes from related species are often placed in other species to form GM foods. This occurs naturally in nature, we are just speeding it along and choosing beneficial genes to input.

Seeing as how pretty much the only genetic modifications applied to foods is to make the plants hardier and able to live in harsher climates as well as producing more per acre, I don't see why this is an issue outside of the scaremongers who claim that we're creating poison. There are people who need this food to survive, billions of them, in fact. We literally cannot feed everyone with purely organic farming, and I think that the people who try forcing the world to give up genetically modified food are some of the most evil people in history.

Not really extra packaging, just either two more printed letters (GM) or not.

We've been modifying food since agriculture became a thing. Ever eaten a banana? Modified. Corn? Modified.

Oh good, this forum is still full of people who think labelling GMOs makes any sense.

To repeat what I've said in the last half-dozen of these: a "GMO" label is like an "Edible" label. Whether or not it's edible isn't the important information. The important thing is whether you should eat it, and neither of those labels tell you anything about that.

The green jellyfish gene is perfectly harmless; splicing in a Very Fast Death Factor production gene, probably less so.
