Assault weapons bans are pointless. Banning an operating system or a gun based on its looks makes about as much sense as banning BMWs and forcing people to drive Yugos because a BMW "looks too fast." That's a horrible comparison, I know. But would a lack of a high capacity magazines stopped Andrew Kehoe or Charles Whitman from perpetrating their crimes? No, because they did not need them.

theirs quite a precedent of countries after banning hand guys seeing spikes in stabbing.

honestly even the federal diffinaion sucks.
the feds define an assault rifle as
Semi-automatic rifles able to accept detachable magazines and two or more of the following:

Folding or telescoping stock
Pistol grip
Bayonet mount
Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one
Grenade launcher mount

i would like to point out that the first 4 have little to do with leathality
a folding or telescoping stock would only be of benefit in a situation where you are switching between tight and open spaces otherwise a long or short fixed stock would be better
a pistol grip is a handle style doesn't do much other than egronomics
bayonet mount only useful if you out of ammo if your close enough to stab your close enough to shoot
flash suppressor really it just makes it less bright when you shoot. honestly probably makes it safer.
