Women and men are very different psychologically because we have different brain structures, male brains are 10% bigger and have 4% more brain cells, but women have more cellular connections which allow quicker speed of thought and problem solving. Men have four times as much grey matter and women have ten times as much white matter. Men predominantly use the left hemisphere of the brain which is based in rationality, but women have a bigger corpus callosum which means that they transfer data between the two hemispheres more easily and are thus more in touch with the right side of their brain that is responsible for both art and communication.

This means that men and women are fundamentally different, women have evolved neurologically to be better communicators, and men have a greater capacity for rationality and are more detached from their emotions, they also (due to a lesser ability to communicate) tend to think in terms of themselves rather than the group.

(Sources include: The Scientific American: http://www.scientificamerican.com/artic ... -boy-brain and http://www.thirdage.com/love-romance/th ... male-brain)

Both of these skill sets seem equal, I am in no way trying to suggest either male or female superiority but I am trying to show male and female difference. You can change how you look all you like but inside where it counts-inside of your mind, you will always think like and be your original gender.

Does that matter and should it effect someone's choice in changing their appearance? Ofc not, people must be free to alter their bodies however they wish, but they shouldn't delude themselves into thinking that they have changed their gender. It just isn't true, it isn't transgenderism I have a problem with, it's self-delusion I don't like.

CONCLUSIONS:

Our results show that the white matter microstructure pattern in untreated FtM transsexuals is closer to the pattern of subjects who share their gender identity (males) than those who share their biological sex (females). Our results provide evidence for an inherent difference in the brain structure of FtM transsexuals.

I suppose it's entirely possible to not fall into a gender category, or to feel like you're the wrong gender. But I think that many people who think they are the wrong gender, or don't fit into a gender, are actually basing these thoughts off of the same cultural conceptions of gender that they claim to be oppressed by.

Being an "effeminate" male or a "masculine" female does not mean you are the wrong gender, it means society is wrong about your birth gender...

I also hate the word "cisgender". It's not a horrible word in its own right, but like other conceptual words (both "feminism" and "masculism" come to mind, as do both "homophobia" and "gay agenda"), it kind of evokes an "us and them" mentality and is all too frequently used to antagonize majoritarian people as being enemies of the minority.

But I don't really care. If you think you're the wrong gender or don't have a gender, more power to you.

That is very very interesting. But as far as I can tell that only applies to one neurological difference which is white matter and not grey matter (which men have more of), the corpus callosum which is bigger in women and allows trans-hemispheric data transfer, or the sheer size of the brain (10% bigger in men) or the fact that those with female brains will always have greater cellular connections and be better communicators as a result of that and their greater integration of the right-hemisphere. Those are the things that make the biggest difference in how the genders think.

So the whole white matter microstructure seems a bit paltry in light of the other differences, in my opinion.

I'm a little confused. I was under the impression that there were only two genders, and transgenders were people who switched either male-to-female or female-to-male (and in my opinion there's no problem with that). Call me an ignorant old fool if you will, but could someone please explain what the other genders are? Thanks.

Some would say that transgendered people are a different gender.

There's most definitely only two sexes, since that's genetic (XX and XY chromosomes) but since Gender is essentially cultural (we kinda made it up), you can have whatever genders you want. Men, women, genderqueers, whatever XD

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19341803

this one is slightly less conclusive

Results revealed that regional gray matter variation in MTF transsexuals is more similar to the pattern found in men than in women. However, MTF transsexuals show a significantly larger volume of regional gray matter in the right putamen compared to men. These findings provide new evidence that transsexualism is associated with distinct cerebral pattern, which supports the assumption that brain anatomy plays a role in gender identity.

so the grey matter is also affected, and since you were talking about the right-side of the brain it seemed relevant
