I'm talking about Punk in general not just Steampunk.
I just get so tired of all the movies basically going 'OHH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IS SCARY!'
If its not GM foods its rogue robots or some other thing, I don't deny that they make for good story-telling but its the fact that they influence our views on science that pisses me off.

I admit I don't have much experience in it, but I've never seen something like that. May you enlighten me?

I don't find cyberpunk to be about technology being scary. Rather, it's a display of what would happen if we were to allow our consumer culture to continue to grow in a pre-type 1 society. In fact, Cyberpunk is almost always "Tech good! Tech abuse bad! FIGHT BACK! We are one, we are the people!"

Avatar for example?
The nature loving space elves are depicted as the 'good guys' and the oh so horrible technologically advanced humans are evil.

Tech-abuse? No I must disagree there. Its the centralization of technology that's bad and encourages social stratification.
De-centralization of technology and making it available to everyone results in a healthier society.

sure you're not being overly defensive? came across more like the jingoistic space fascists were the bad guys rather than humans tbh.
