I'd like to know what horse tastes like.

I call tell you that raw horse tastes a bit like smoky beef jerky. I'm rather fond of it actually.

Personally I love horses but not for eating.

They are meant to be for riding and taken care of.

Horses were nothing more then junior partners in a mutually beneficial relationship with humanity, we use them as beast of burden and mounts and we raise them in safety as well as feeding them.
Now however with the mass availability of manufactured transportation as well as advanced farming equipment we no longer need them, so the horse is SOL.

I wouldn't eat horse myself, but if it's your culture or style, be my guest. Horses aren't any different from cattle, we just hang around them more and so get more attached to them.

Yeah, I don't care about eating horse, I care about crap getting in my food. Seems it'd be just as easy for something dangerous to get in, a cheap banned additive for example.

The thing is that this kind of fraud doesn't take any sort of elaborate conspiracy or even remote sophistication. It just takes one manager at one company to tell their subordinate "Yeah, stick the beef label on that, nobody will know."

Dozens of drugs are involved and the meat came from Romania. The horses probably had tons of steroids based on the availability of steroids in Romania and neighboring countries to the south and east.

It's not surprising that consumers couldn't tell the difference when horsemeat was used in meat patties or prepared meals. But some of it was sold raw as steak and people still didn't notice the difference!

I think that eventually a competetive market formed, with many businesses jockeying for the market. I could see some of the failed farms getting back in the saddle for the new sector of the economy.

The problem isn't about what we should or shouldn't eat. Even people who believe eating horse meat is okay should be very shocked. It's a scam. People who believed they were buying beef ended up with horse.
