It's not irrational if you have a rational reasoning. Saying "It's not irrational" without providing said reason does nothing to dispel the idea of it being irrational.

Why hasn't paperwork gone all digital then? Shouldn't computers have eliminated the need for pencil/ink on paper? No. And I don't anticipate that electronic payment will completely eliminate the need for physical currency as a fallback option. Going all electronic is a needless downgrade for those who still have a demand for cash.

As long as there is a demand for physical cash, the odds of society/government as a whole abolishing it is slim.

Most currency already is digital. A huge percentage of the United States dollars in circulation exist only as data, not as physical objects.

We dont need physical currency therefore, it will be obsolete hence electronic payment will eventually replace physical currency.

Maybe not completely, but you most likely see the paper dollar fade away in the next 50 years.

We don't need physical documents either. Yet they still exist & are common. And it's far easier to digitalise documents than currency.

You could equally make the case that notes/coins aren't means of exchange and on their own, they mean nothing. They are simply means to access part of the actual currency stored in a bank's vaults.
