Can you prove that all poor people have cell phones, much less cell phone or internet service? I didn't get a cell phone until a year ago and didn't have my own computer until around 3 years ago.

They can use card which will be free.
Or wristband.
Or watch.

Hence why we have UPS, inverter and generators.

Have all the backups you want, it's just nice knowing one's money actually exists somewhere in the actual world rather than as data somewhere.
It is worrying to think that all one's money is in a computer somewhere, and that one can't just reach into one's pocket to just grab some of it if one needs it.

As there remains a majority who still use currency, there is no sense in forcing a system people don't want to use.

Sure but we should insensitive switch to virtual currency and eventually permanently switch after running two systems simultaneously for few decades.
Not if people still don't want to switch even after a few decades.
Just because something is possible doesn't mean it should be done. If the people don't want it, they don't want it.

You can get a cell phone and pay 10-20 bucks a month on the pay-as-you-go deals.

Well you may have missed it the many, many, many times it was mentioned in the last year, but lower income voters tend to be cell phone users. It was mentioned repeatedly due to the difficulty in polling these people, which is why there was a noticeable pro-Romney bias in so many polls.

Does everyone have a cell phone, no, do most, yes.

Thats nothing more than form of technophobia. You cant reach into your pocket to grab cash, instead you get to reach into your pocket and grab a card or phone or lift hand with wristband or watch to grab some money if you need it.

Hence why we should incentivise the switch. Decrease sales tax on virtual currency, increase it on physical during switch phase. Eventually, people's irrational fear will melt away and they will switch.

Speaking of which, we should get rid of those too. They cost more than they're worth as well, and economically they're worth so little as to be pointless in terms of transactions.
