Yeah, what business do single mothers have trying to use limited, controlled phone plans for emergencies? The selfish whores! If someone tries to rape them or abduct their kids, they can panhandle for change for the pay phone!

I find a certain amount of irony in someone who has collected unemployment benefits bitching about people "leeching off welfare"

It's good you can see irony. All I see is rage.

If you're so short that you're having difficulty paying your bills you could, you know, stop giving a tenth of your wage to the church.

Au contraire Mr. Know-it-all. The Church, during the time I was unemployed, paid my rent, utilities and food. Now that I am able, I pay my 10 percent so that they can help people lilke they helped me.

This is how it is SUPPOSED to work. People volunteering to help other people, instead of being forced.

Oh Ryadn Ryadn Ryadn, when will you understand? Every life is precious when its a mass of tissue riding around in someone else's body. After that if they don't make it off the beach, nuts to them.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

We often have service projects, people on church welfare are expected to be there helping out. We often work at "welfare farms". These are farms that grow food for the "Bishop's Storehouse". Welfare recipients are expected to help out on the farms. They are also expected to work i nthe Storehouses when the ward has an assignment there.

We verify, because we see them there. However, the Bishop is generally the only one in the Ward who knows who is on welfare.

People who can't feed themselves are expected to work as manual laborers on communal "farms".

Why does that seem so familiar?

Of course not. Unemployment is simply money taken from tax payers and handed out to those who aren't currently contributing monetarily to society. That's totally different than welfare.

It's not totally inconsistent. KMA is worried about people leeching off the system. It's a fair enough concern. It's just that his only proposal for fixing the problem is to let God weed out the free loaders.

Of course. They're called "bus stations" and "train stations" and "libraries" and "homeless shelters" and a plethora of other publically accessable locations.

I have, on more than one occassion, needed to charge my cellphone while traveling. If you look around, you can find an outlet in just about every transport hub.
