The conspiracy theories I'm hearing are in regards to thimerosol (a mercury derivative). There have long been theories about vaccines with thimerosol causing autism in children. Of course, new vaccine, new batch of conspiracy theories.

Oh, don't get me started on that lunacy! There is no such link, it's been debunked over and over again... and besides, the mercury contents of this vaccine is less than the normal person ingests in three days as a part of their diet. Morons!

Some aren't sure it's necessary and are really torn on getting it or not. On a practical level, this causes people confusion and muddies the waters. It's free here btw, for most people, so the only factor is 'is it necessary, is it safe' for many. I can understand cost being an additional factor that could change answers.

I will almost certainly get it when it becomes available and if I can find the money. For some reason, flu and my body really, really don't get along. I've gotten dangerously ill more than once from the ordinary seasonal flu, and so letting myself get a worse-than-usual strain does not sound like a particularly good idea.

Hence my comment about the tuna. It's sad seeing people who apparently missed the crazy 'vaccines give your kids autism' crap, who are now fearing it in regards to this vaccine. I'm getting tired of mocking people on Facebook for it.

I don't think the vaccine is dangerous, but I also don't think that swine flu is particularly dangerous to me. I mean, yes, people in my age group have died of it, but usually they have underlying health issues.

In addition, they use gelatin from pigs as a stabilizing agent in the vaccine. If they want to start making unnecessary vaccines that don't kill pigs, I'll start taking them.

Not to mention that using pig gelatin is pretty stupid since anyone who keeps Kosher or Halal can't have them either.
