What I don't get is people don't realize that the chance of getting a really bad case of Swine flu is A LOT higher than getting side effects from the vaccine which makes you 100% safe from the flu.

Seriously, this is getting annoying.
a) The swine flu kills young and healthy people, not the old and already weak ones as the normal flu.
b) It's not about total numbers. The swine flu could just stay as it is right now and kill quite a few young people that would normally not have a problem with the flu. Tragic, sure, but not horrifying. The problem is that this virus could mutate and become way more dangerous. The seasonal flu mutates too, each year a little so some of us get sick again. Oh yeah, evolution at work, I love it. The difference with the swine flu is that nobody has any immunity. It has the potential to for a pandemic!

If the seasonal flu mutates, we get another seasonal flu, some get sick, most don't. Let's make this extra clear: Even if the seasonal flu gets more aggressive and has suddenly a higher mortality rate, this would not be that bad since a lot of people have a natural immunity.
If the swine flu mutates into something more aggressive, we are royally fucked.

Watch this! You don't even have to watch the whole 10 minutes.

If you don't have asthma, diabetes et c... then you're probably ok.

And well, getting the seasonal flu shot every year might put you at a higher risk of getting swine flu this year.

Yes that is true, the reason behind this theory based on the fact that it is mainly targeting young people and not the old is because it is believed that something similar spread around the world a few decades ago and so these people have already built up an immunity.

No I won't be getting the vaccine any time soon. I went to Melbourne during the height of the hype, Melbourne being the city where the vast majority of confirmed cases in Australia are and never got it then, don't really see why I should get one now.

If I were to travel oversees then I would probably get a regular flu shot, along with any other recommended shots depending on where I was going.

The people who are at most risk for complications or serious illness with this flu are under 50 with pre-existing health problems like diabetes and asthma.

Well, at least you corrected yourself. Still, I think you're being just a tad paranoid. There are risks associated with every vaccine. The vast majority of those vaccinated will experience only minor complications, if any.

Except that the young and healthy person who doesn't have other health problems is not really at risk for this. So no, the young and healthy are not precisely the most at risk.

Do any of you guys NOT watch the news?! Many have died from it here in CA, also, I pregnant woman died from the Swine FLU, not the shot...she and the baby both died.. :/

I will not be getting it as I don't believe I need it. If I get it I will treat it as the regular flu, and by teating it as the average flu, it will act as the average flu. That's MY version of logic.
