Should the U.S. invade Mexico?

Postby Valtakuntia » Sun Feb 10, 2013 8:18 pm

Like it or not, Mexico’s problems are our problems. For decades, politicians in Washington have cowardly turned a bi-partisan blind eye to the economic refugees (i.e., illegal aliens) that have transgressed our borders until it has become an unbearable strain upon our economy. Then, rather than securing our border and addressing the problem, the immigrants are now being used as political pawns in order to create a huge pool of 8 million progressive voters.

Should the U.S. invade Mexico and/or annex it as the 51st state, or several states?

NO!!!

Immediate amnesty to all so-called "illegal" immigrants. End the labelling of peaceful immigrants as "illegals".

Is the default, right-wing American response to a problem an invasion?

I guess. Anyway, we got all the good parts of Mexico the last time we invaded them.

Why? The only thing Mexico has that we want is cheap labor and they are already here.

Should the U.S. invade Mexico and/or annex it as the 51st state? I personally think it should.

Well, since Mexico is the United States of Mexico, it would be more than just the 51st state.

No.
Ending the war on drugs will go a long way to ending a period of instability and corruption in mexico.
Once that's done, you can encourage investors to go there since they aren't likely to have all their money extorted by drug lords and crooked cops in drug lords pockets (It's unlikely to happen anyway, but the drug war doesn't help with perceptions, and perceptions are what matters in economics.). Once the local economy picks up, you'll see immigration to the US slow.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

Somehow, I think a giant war with Mexico would cost the US a lot more money than securing the border and granting amnesty to the immigrants. Also, having all of Mexico be one state is absolutely insane.

You do know that Redstate's connection with reality is very poor?

Maybe both the US and Mexico need to rethink how we deal with drug cartels. Maybe just legalize marijuana to prevent this violence and use taxes on it to help addicts. We should have a Drug Violence Summit and one on illegal immigration.

Both of you. If you're not, here's the deal, we'll do it but both of you have to enlist in the infantry. You call for invading a neighboring country, you have to put up or shut up about participating.

This rule should also apply to politicians who think that they can call for war without knowing what war is actually like.
