Snapped on NationStates?

Postby Peisandros » Tue Oct 27, 2009 11:13 pm

Recently my girlfriend of over 6 months saw me on NationStates for the first time. I hadn't told her about it or anything, so when she saw me on last week she was rather inquisitive. I felt a little embarrassed at first, like I was doing something wrong. It's not that she was judging me, she just didn't think I was the kind of person who would be kinda heavily involved in an online game. She has given me a bit of shit for it since then, in a light-hearted way.

It got me thinking, anyone else had significant others inquire about NationStates? What was the result, any funny stories?

One of my "hunnies" asked about it the other day and fell asleep when I tried to explain it.

My significant other was formerly an occasional poster on NSG, though no longer.

My fiance apparently has a nation on here somewhere, but she's so involved in other roleplaying games I never see her on.

Me and a whole bunch of my friends started NS at the same time and made our region. It's just us there. Chrif is the only one I see on the forums though.

It's not a choice. I mean, who would choose to do this? We were born this way.

Not like that...One of my friends noticed me on here before, and when I told him what it was about, he said his nation would slaughter mine,

When I explained to him that that wasnt what it was about, he said it was lame...

My (now ex-)boyfriend got jealous of the time and effort I spent on NS (especially after I got modded!) and at one point he made a nation on here just to lurk the forums and see if I was logging onto NS and not signing onto the IRC chat we both use. He got pretty upset whenever he'd spot me on the forums and not on the chat where I could talk to him too; nevermind that checking the forums can be a quick glance-at-the-computer thing before running out the door to run errands or something.

6.5 years later and I'm still on NS, said boyfriend was dumped, and I met my current boyfriend here ;)

I told my parents about it when I started back in high school. They weren't very interested in joining the site, but there were a few dinner table discussions that started from "So I was reading this topic on NationStates and someone brought up X...." -- Later on they determined that I was spending too much time on the site, and I had access limited to weekends and days when I'd finished my homework and the like. Even later on, when I grew bored and stopped spending so much time anyway (shortly before graduating from high school in 2007), they more or less forgot about the site altogether.

I was also introduced to the game by a friend, but the friend no longer plays that I know of and, in fact, I've lost touch with him.

I suppose most people just aren't really interested in nation simulation games. Not really surprising, that.

Seriously?

I mean, I get being jealous if your SO spends too much time playing a video game instead of socializing with you, but an internet forum? Where most interactions are 30 seconds of typing followed by several minutes of inactivity? That seems slightly completely excessively jealous.

She knows, thinks it's nerdy and amusing. She's concerned about the amount of time I spend online, but that's all right.

I doubt they either know or care, actually. Since I no longer live with them, they don't really have any reason to be concerned over how much time I spend on the internet, and nor will they be particularly interested to know what I do on some random website somewhere.

Besides, if I forumban them for rule violations, they know where I live.
