Why do humans get the exception? What's unique about us?

Okay... and the platypus is the only venomous mammal (as far as I know...). Does that put it in a special place too?

Occam's razor.
What's more likely - we evolved in the same area at the same time as other apes, but from a different ancestor, and just happen to share more DNA with them than with other animals, or we evolved from the same common ancestors?

Same reason that the Swamp Rat should have the same origin as the Marsh Rat.

Well, we technically are apes, but according to the evidence that exists regarding human evolution, humans most likely evolved from pre-human apes referred to as 'hominids', which themselves evolved from the apes we classify today as 'apes'. Humans are the last (known) extant hominids (or more precisely, the last known extant descendents thereof).

So, if one were to imply that we all evolved from chimpanzees, that someone would be incorrect; however, if one were to imply that we all evolved from a common ancestor between ourselves and chimpanzees, that someone would be in line with the findings already discovered regarding our development as humans.

Plausible would be a gross understatement.

No no. It was an Ape. It would have been categorized as such. It just wouldn't have been any modern ape.

I suppose that would depend which thing we evolved from you're talking about.
