Anyway, I am an atheist. While being born Anglican (Church of Ireland), I turned away from the church when I realised how little meaning it had for me, how hypocritical it all seemed, how it imposed an authority over me, and how religion makes the universe complicated and confusing while science makes it elegant and progressive. To some extent, I have more recently become very devout in my humanistic atheism, and I have come to see religion as morally wrong. Of course, that's just my opinion.

I think that's due in part to the premise of the thread; instead of arguing over *what* we believe in, we're asking ourselves *why* we believe it to begin with.

Yeah, that's a bit strange. No one even bother to question why I'm in Islam: one of the reason because it's authoritarian.

Also, I believe Christopher Hitchens said it best.
"The only position that leaves me with no cognitive dissonance is atheism. It is not a creed. Death is certain, replacing both the siren-song of Paradise and the dread of Hell. Life on this earth, with all its mystery and beauty and pain, is then to be lived far more intensely: we stumble and get up, we are sad, confident, insecure, feel loneliness and joy and love. There is nothing more; but I want nothing more."
- Hitchens, in the Portable Atheist
