Which is basically what the Doug Stanhope quote I posted was trying to convey.

The fact that there are debates justifies the debates. The fact that there are people who actually believe that the state should choose who you get to marry is more than enough justification.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

I know. It's so... different from here. Here they'd be yelling at each other, slinging ad hominems, and ending every statement with "Furthermore, I think that Iran must be destroyed".

The gay community here is well represented in the arts.
It becomes incredibly difficult to hate gays when so many national heros are gay and such.

Notice how everyone chats and such when homophobic people are talking, but remains silent when the non-homophobe ones do.
Thats a good way to tell how parliament feels.

It is strange. A pleasant strange, though.

<Koyro> (Democratic Koyro) NSG senate is a glaring example of why no one in NSG should ever have a position of authority

Last backbencher to speak. It will take about ten minutes to vote and a few more for the results to be declared.

A guy currently saying that bigotry needs protecting under law, essentially.
Don't be deceived when our Revolution has finally been stamped out and they tell you things are better now even if there's no poverty to see, because the poverty's been hidden...even if you ever got more wages and could afford to buy more of these new and useless goods which these new industries foist on you, and even if it seems to you that "you never had so much" - that is only the slogan of those who have much more than you.

Around half the tory party is the Libertarian strain (or they are pretending to be.) and so have to support it.
The only people opposing are creepy statists and clerical fascists, thankfully a minority in both parties.

Whether or not they WANT it passed is another matter. They know the people won't stand for it not passing.
